Downtown Film Series is pleased to open the 15th Anniversary Season of Stars Under the Stars with the 1959 romantic comedy, Pillow Talk. In the first of several movies they would end up filming together, Rock Hudson, Doris Day, and Tony Randall star in this tale of telephone party line hijinks and mistaken identities. Pillow Talk was nominated for five Oscars including Best Actress for Day. It won the Oscar for Best Writing (Original Screenplay) and has been named to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Hudson portrays Brad Allen, a Broadway composer and ladies man. Day's character is Jan Morrow, a successful and happy interior decorator. They both live in New York City and have the misfortune of suddenly sharing a telephone party line. Jan is constantly hearing Brad wooing lady after lady with songs he wrote “just for them”, and even though they've never met, a phone feud between the two soon develops. One evening in a club, they happen to meet. Always being the playboy, Brad takes on a Texas accent and new identity, and neither realizes who the other is–at least for a little while! Jan is smart and after some time she realizes

who she's been falling for. Can two people who argue over the party line actually fall for each other in person?

Bring your blankets or bag chairs and find out under the stars this Friday, June 8. The presentation will begin at dusk at the Downtown Crute Stage, located on the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in Farmville. In the event of rain, the film will be shown the following evening at dusk.

As part of the ongoing enhancements to the Crute Stage area, this year Downtown Film Series donated permanent outdoor speakers and associated audio/visual equipment. Donations previous years have included a backstage storage area, additional power and lights, and bathroom facilities.

Parking is available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the court house. Admission is free, and popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for purchase. Please note, for the comfort and safety of all, there is a “No Pets” policy.
