CUMBERLAND – The County's District Three Supervisor, Kevin Ingle, requested that Cumberland County begin the pro-cess required to move his district's polling location from its current location at the Cumberland Rescue Squad on Route 60 to the County's Community Center, which is located at the intersections of Routes 45 and 60 in the Hillcrest area.
His request was that the location be moved to the new area where Southside Virginia Community College currently houses satellite rooms in the Community Center.
“There is an area that meets all the requirements and I just think it would be a wonderful place to move it,” said Ingle.
The Electoral Board met earlier and viewed the location, according to information provided by Cumberland's Registrar, Mar-lene Watson.
According to Watson, the rescue squad building has “become a safety issue due to parking during elections” and being “una-ble to adequately rope off the 40-foot boundary.”
Ingle's precinct moving request carried unanimously during May's Board of Supervisors meeting.
According to County Administrator Vivian Giles the request will be set for a public hearing in June.
