The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts invites children and their families to escape the heat and make something cool. Open from June 4 through August 3, the Summer Art Studio program gives children a free ticket to travel Around the World in 45 Days! Kid-friendly art activities will change every two weeks to explore the art and culture of a new continent. Families are welcome to stop in weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; children must be accompanied by an adult.
This year's program dates and themes are:
June 4-15: First Stop: Africa – whether you like elephants or Egypt, masks or Madagascar, there are projects for all.
June 18-29: On To India! – from architecture to animals, from tigers to textiles, come explore India.
July 2-13: Experience Asia! – ancient to contemporary, come create with porcelain, brush painting, manga, and more.
July 16-27: The Good Old USA! – America the beautiful inspires beautiful art; it's the land of the free tie-dye.
July 30-August 3: Last Stop: Europe! – from Monet to Michaelangelo, Europe's masterpieces will finish out a great summer.
With the exception of tie-dye activities, all materials are supplied. The drop-in program is free and open to the public; no registration is required. The LCVA is located at 129 North Main Street in Farmville. For further information on this or other programs and events, call the LCVA at 434-395-2206 or visit the website at www.longwood.edu/lcva.
