High Bridge Trail State Park announces the following events:
Clean the Bay Day: High Bridge Trail State Park will host the “Run for Your Life” 5K run on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 2. The race begins at 8 a.m. near Main Street Plaza in Farmville and follows an out-and-back course. Following the 5K Race, High Bridge Trail State Park will have a Clean the Bay Day program. This starts at 10 a.m. at the Farmville Main Street plaza. Any interested participants will walk down the trail to the bridge that crosses the Appomattox River at River Road. Representatives from the Friends of Appomattox River (FAR) and the Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District (PSWCD) will be on hand to share information. The program will focus on the health of the Appomattox River and how that relates to the Chesapeake Bay. There will be a talk about watersheds, the Appomattox River watershed in particular, the impact residents we have on its health and what can be done to minimize that impact. Remember to bring drinking water. For more information contact the park office at 434-315-0457 or email highbridgetrail@dcr.virginia.gov.
Full Moon Trail Night: Enjoy a rare chance to visit the park after the sun has gone down. The Rice to Farmville section of High Bridge Trail will be open to night trail users on Sunday, June 3, until 11 p.m. This is an opportunity to cross High Bridge in the moonlight and hear the night sounds along the way. Bicyclists must have head lights and tail lights illuminated. Remember to bring drinking water. For more information contact the park office at 434-315-0457 or email highbridgetrail@dcr.virginia.gov.
