Appomattox Court House NHP will commemorate the 147th anniversary of the surrender of General Robert E. Lee to General Ulysses S. Grant with special activities in April. Starting April 7 through April 12, the park will offer a series of anniversary related tours and programs. The public is invited to enjoy military and civilian living history presentations, guided tours, and ranger programs.

On April 11 at 1:20 p.m., there will be a screening of the documentary film, “47 Miles: A March to Destiny” with Mountain House Films co-founder Nancy Moseley. This documentary chronicles the 47 miles marched by the 24th Virginia Infantry re-enactment unit in 2010 from Sailor's Creek State Park to Appomattox Court House NHP.

The following weekend, April 14-15, Confederate re-enactment groups will be encamped in the village. That weekend at 1 p.m. each day there will be a “Stacking of Arms Ceremony” along the stage road exactly where General Lee's army surrendered its military equipment 147 years ago. They will also demonstrate historic weapons, drilling, and tactical demonstrations on the last battlefield of Lee's Army. Throughout all the anniversary related events there will be printing of parole passes demonstrated in the Clover Hill Tavern, the same building where they were printed in 1865. Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is located on Highway 24, three miles from Appomattox. The park is open daily from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Entrance fees are $3 per person, or $5 per vehicle.
