Note: The following is a comprehensive, weekly update produced by Prince Edward County High School Athletics Department for the Farmville Herald.

The Prince Edward County High School varsity teams were active for the week of March 26-30. Highlighting the week was a win in boys tennis over Randolph-Henry and a boys soccer victory over Buckingham that avenged an earlier loss.

Boys Tennis

The boys tennis team defeated Randolph-Henry 6-3. Dean Jewett and West Bogese both won their singles and doubles matches, while Keiston France and Asim Brooks won their singles matches.

Girls Tennis

The girls tennis team defeated Randolph-Henry 6-3 but lost 9-0 to Fluvanna. The Lady Eagles are 3-2 on the season.

Boys Varsity Soccer

The Prince Edward Varsity Boys soccer team lost to Appomattox County High School 2-1. The Eagles (3-2) dominated the first half and managed to score in the 29th minute when Henry Kocevar took a shot from the center of the box, recovered the save and passed it to Bryce Dietrich who put the ball in the back of the net.

AJ Stringfellow produced two saves in the 36th and 37th minute to keep the Eagles in the game. In the second half, Stringfellow saved one more shot in the 54th minute, but couldn't stop the goal from a corner six minutes later.

The Raiders scored their winning goal in the 67th minute. Peter Carter tried to level the score four minutes later when he took a free kick just that missed the goal.

Prince Edward defeated Buckingham 1-0 on Thursday. The Eagles were set for a clash against a team that defeated them 3-1 two weeks ago and didn't want to give them the same satisfaction.

The game started with Deitrich trying a chip shot over the keeper in the eighth minute, but the ball went over the net.

James Farley would cross the ball a minute later from the left side and found Liam Burke in the center who headed the ball just right of the post.

The Eagles lived dangerously four minutes before the half, when Stringfellow saved a shot from the inside of the box and the follow-up rolled on the left side of the goal. A minute before intermission, Peter Carter picked a ball in the center, dribbled down the left side and tried to slip the ball under the keeper in the bottom right corner.

The ball hit the goalie's knee, came back in the center and Bryce recovered, took a lofty shot the ball finally went in the net.

In the second half, Stringfellow saved a free kick from the left side to keep the score board clean. The Eagles continued to dominate and create more chances to score, but didn't manage to put the ball in the net. <br />
The boys' next game is at Appomattox on Thursday.

Girls Varsity Soccer

The Varsity Girls Soccer team lost a heartbreaker 5-4 in overtime to Appomattox. The Raiders took a 2-0 lead midway through the first half.

The Lady Eagles (1-1) answered with four consecutive goals before intermission, led by Katrina Lowe's hat trick. Appomattox (4-1) the game in the second half before scoring the game winner four minutes into overtime.

Varsity Baseball

The varsity baseball team traveled to Park View on Thursday night for its first district contest. The Eagles fell 9-3 to draw their record to 2-3 overall, and 0-1 in Southside District play.

Chay Fitts started the game on the mound for the Eagles and pitched well. However, the Eagles' defense made several untimely errors.

At the plate Fitts was 2-2 with two doubles and two runs batted in.

The Eagles hosted Buckingham on Monday (see story on Page 4A), and was scheduled to host Brunswick in their first home district game on Tuesday. Prince Edward will travel to Greensville on Thursday for its final game before Spring Break.

Girls Varsity Softball

The Prince Edward softball team lost to Fluvanna 9-1. The Lady Eagles committed six errors in the loss.

The Varsity girls lost its Southside District opener to Park View 8-0 to fall to 3-4 (0-1 Southside) in South Hill.

The Lady Eagles traveled to Buckingham on Monday, and was scheduled to host Brunswick on Tuesday, before traveling to Greensville on Thursday for their final game before Spring Break.

Brunswick Boys 75, PE 56

Individual winners: Rashaad Walton, Long jump, 100 and 200. Marquis Fitzgerald, 110 hurdles. Isiah Davis, shot put and discus.

Brunswick Girls 79, PE. 26

Individual Winner: Delantra Nash won the 200.
