Phyllis Norton Towler, 78

JANUARY 5 – Phyllis Norton Towler, 78, passed away in Farmville on Wednesday, December 28, 2011. She was born at the Old Walker Place in Jennings Ordinary to the late James and Lilly Sue Hamlett Norton on August 2, 1933.

She was raised on a tobacco farm and was a founding member of the hospital gift shop and auxiliary. Ms. Towler loved playing bridge and was a founding member of the Farmville bridge club in 1957. She was a very active member at Heritage Baptist Church and worked in Vacation Bible School as a crew leader and taught the ESL class at the church.

She retired in 2003 as an office manager of Southside Urology Clinic.

Ms. Towler is survived by her children, Debbie Sloan of Lexington, SC, Susan Towler of Jacksonville, FL and Robyn Jo Simpson (David) of Prospect; sister, Sadie Hodnett of Farmville; and seven grandchildren, Kristen Sloan, Jon Sloan, and Katie Sloan all of South Carolina, Daniel Simpson and Jacqueline Simpson of Prospect, Miriam Simpson of Farmville and Joselyn Simpson of Guatemala. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

A funeral service was held in the Chapel of Puckett Funeral Home on Monday, January 2, with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
