HAMPDEN-SYDNEY — Mike Murray (Norfolk/Norfolk Christian) scored a career-high 22 points on Wednesday night to lift Hampden-Sydney (5-3, 1-1 ODAC) basketball to a 60-56 ODAC win at home against Randolph College (4-2, 1-1 ODAC).

The Tigers started the game off well with four straight baskets in the paint to lead 8-3 five minutes in, but back-to-back Randolph threes followed by a Seth Wimbish jumper put the visiting WildCats in front 11-10 with 11:14 left in the half. It was a close affair throughout the remainder of the stanza. With the game tied at 23-23 with four minutes to go, Murray nailed consecutive three pointers to put H-SC ahead 29-23 at intermission.

Hampden-Sydney retained at least a 6-8 point lead for the majority of the early portion of the second half and went ahead by 12, 43-31, after a Mitch Owens (Williamsburg/Walsingham) tip-in at the 10:45 mark. Randolph then utilized an 8-0 run to swing momentum their way, but Murray tried to turn the game back in the favor of the Tigers with another shot from deep range to give H-SC a 46-39 lead at 8:51. That proved futile and before all was said and done, Randolph went on a 20-4 spurt over seven minutes to go in front 51-47 with 3:35 remaining. On H-SC's next possession, a Sasha Obradovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Hawaii Prep) traditional three-point play rallied the Tigers as H-SC scored 10 straight points and closed out the game at the charity stripe.

Murray's 22 points came courtesy of 7-12 shooting overall along with four triples, Obradovic scored 13 points in his first start of the season, and Khobi Williamson (Norfolk/Maury) had team-highs of 10 rebounds and three assists. Wimbish led Randolph with 12 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting night, and Corey Brown added on 11.

H-SC shot 39.6 percent for the game compared to a 47.8 percent performance from Randolph. Hampden-Sydney held a major advantage at the foul line as they made 13-of-17 while Randolph attempted just seven, making four. Turnovers proved to be the other major factor as 18 WildCat turnovers led to 24 Tiger points, and H-SC's 13 turnovers resulted in just nine points for the visitors.

Hampden-Sydney takes their annual exam and Christmas break and will be back in action on December 29 for the first day of action in the Luck Stone Holiday Classic. Lynchburg vs. Baruch will be the first game with tip time slated for 2 p.m while Hampden-Sydney follows 30 minutes later vs. Washington & Jefferson.
