More than 7,000 homes and businesses lost power following Sunday’s storm that blanketed ice and a wintry mix over southside and central Virginia.

At 10 a.m. Monday morning, Dominion Virginia Power reported that over 3,000 customers were in the dark across the southside Virginia area. In Buckingham, 164 homes were without power Monday morning, 308 in Cumberland, and 1,075 in Prince Edward.

Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC) reported that just under 3,500 customers were without power at 10 a.m. Monday. In CVEC’s Cartersville substation area, 772 customers lost power, 393 in the Pamplin area, 381 in the Mount Rush area, 21 in the Centenary area, and three homes in the Curdsville area.

Southside Virginia Electric Cooperative had over 6,500 customers without electricity Monday morning. In Cumberland, 594 were in the dark, as were 393 homes in Prince Edward and 19 in Buckingham.

“CVEC crews are in the field working to restore service…They are joined by four crews from Prince George and Community Electric Cooperatives from southeastern Virginia and four crews from Mastec, a private contractor,” explained Greg Kelly, member services manager with CVEC in a Monday morning email.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, CVEC reported outages remaining within the Centenary and Curdsville substations in Buckingham and Cartersville substation in Cumberland.
