The Epps Family, descendants of Lazarus Dalton and Helen Virginia Stokes Epps, recently held their third family reunion the weekend of Oct. 11-13 in Farmville. The attendees ranged n ages from 80 to three years and represented from the first through fourth generations, coming from the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. This is the first time the reunion was held in the area of their ancestors with an historic purpose.

The reunion began with a period of meet and greet where some members met for the first time and continued with a visit to the Moton Museum where Helen Virginia Epps was one of the signers of Davis vs. Prince Edward County, on behalf of Alma Delores Epps Dorgan, one of the litigants who was in attendance. Due to health reasons the other litigant, Helen Maxine Epps Owens, was unable to be present.

The balance of the day was enjoyed by a bus tour over approximately 75 miles and three counties, Prince Edward, Nottoway and Lunenburg, visiting the homesteads, churches, schools, workplaces, birthplaces, parks and gravesites of family members from the 1800’s to the present. Much information was shared as to purchasing of properties, schooling situations, educational achievements, travels, naming of birth sites and death situations, accounting their general living conductions by narrations, photographs, official documents and personal accounts.

The reunion concluded with a buffet dinner at Sheldons Restaurant and a worship service at one of the home churches. Documentation in the form of a DVD for future family references and keepsakes are being prepared.
