PROSPECT — Howard M. “Pete” Campbell has announced he is running for re-election to the board of supervisors’ Prospect District seat as an independent.

“I want to continue serving Prince Edward County by keeping taxes as low as possible, by supporting the endeavors of the Sheriff’s Department, supporting the school system, enhancing the emergency services (fire and rescue squad), eliminating mindless spending, and maintaining programs that will help all Prince Edward County citizens,” Campbell stated in a release. “I will be an advocate for Prospect District citizens by helping with road problems, trash and other citizens’ concerns.”

Campbell is a lifelong resident of Prospect, life-long employee in Prince Edward County where he has worked in oil delivery, propane delivery and as a maintenance officer at Piedmont Regional Jail (22 years), and offers that he is dedicated to all citizens of the district as well as the county.

Campbell also cites he has plenty of time to serve, is on the memorial committee for law enforcement and firefighters, helped named roads in Prospect, and has been enrolled in the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department 40-plus years.

“My vision for Prince Edward County and the Prospect District is to have a positive, vibrant, family-oriented, productive county that will appeal to businesses for true economic development,” the release stated.

The release further notes that Campbell favors a safe environment through more support for the Sheriff’s Department, noting he helped with funding, grants, new programs — speeding/overtime, inviting economic growth, limiting governmental regulations on land use (overlay proposal) and developing “Class A” schools.
