Robert Paul Joles, 90

RICE, August 15 — Robert Paul Joles, 90, departed this life and went home to be with the Lord Jesus, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at his home in Rice. He was born March 20, 1923 to Charles and Adda (Gumbert) Joles in Pittsburg, PA, the youngest of four children.

Mr. Joles served in the Navy in WWII as an Aviation Machinist. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Colonial Heights. He enjoyed working on cars and electronics. He was a long-time member of Ivey Memorial Methodist Church. His family, neighbors and friends will remember his generosity, his quiet nature, his devotion to his family, and doing the right thing even when it was hard. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughters, Gwendolyn Martin and husband, Barry of Rice, Amy Akin and husband, Mark of Wilmington, NC, and Beth Grissom and Carl Jr. of Chesapeake; eight grandchildren, Amanda Holliday, Erin Greene, Ian Akin, Emily Grissom, Madalyn Grissom, Tori Grissom, David Martin, and James Martin; five great-grandchildren, D.J., Jude, Elijah, Lois, and Piper. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty years, June E. Joles, his parents, sister, Jane Jennings, brothers, Everett and Charles Joles, and great-grandson, Owen Greene.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 17, at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Robert Greene officiating. The family will greet friends immediately after the service.
