The community is invited to High Bridge Trial State Park on Saturday, July 27, to learn about the world of geocaching. Geocaching is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

GPS units will be provided for this program or use your own GPS-enabled mobile phone to navigate to the cache. The park’s AmeriCorps volunteer, Caitlin Sylvester, will be on hand to demonstrate how to utilize them to find hidden caches throughout the park. On a short hike to find the caches you learn about how geocaching started and how to take part in this activity almost anywhere.

Meet at the River Road parking lot on High Bridge Trail at 10 a.m. to start searching. The event is free, but a parking fee applies at the River Road parking lot. Be sure to bring drinking water. For more information contact the park office at 434-315-0457 or email highbridgetrail@dcr.virginia.gov.
