Farmers Market has something for everyone

Berryman Glascock is well known for his peach ice cream, which usually sells out on Saturdays at the Farmers Market.

A visit to the Farmville Farmers Market last Saturday, July 25, could make someone feel like they travelled back in time to last summer, before the pandemic changed everything.
Although both vendors and customers wore masks and kept their distance, the air of the market felt cheery and carefree — a welcome feeling.
The market was bustling Saturday morning with residents eager to shop local. The produce pickings were plentiful. From fresh, locally grown produce, to art, to baked goods and handmade soaps, each stall had something for everyone.
Berryman Glascock, of the Glascock Orchard, was proudly selling his honey Asian pears, peaches and homemade peach ice cream, which is known to sell out of before 11 a.m. Jennifer Wallace, owner of Seeds for the Journey, displayed a variety of beautiful mosaics tiny enough to hold in your palm.
Nathan Moore, of Virgo Pharms, was selling a variety of homegrown mushrooms, explaining to excited customers the unique flavors. Ruth Belier’s wide assortment of baked goods, from pies to brownies to doughnuts and more, were an extremely popular choice. Mindy Eder enjoyed some peach ice cream while selling colorful, handmade jewelry.
Approximately a dozen vendors were at the market Saturday, each with a unique story of what led them to their passion. Farmers, bakers and artisans were all smiles as they interacted with customers, as people from across the area left with bags full of goods.
The day was hot, the ice cream was cold and the market was bursting with life.
