Jewel Elliott of Richmond, granddaughter of James Stokes and Barbara Banks, and SaRoya Tynes Walton of Farmville, granddaughter of Royal and Brenda Eanes, will both receive a $2,500 renewable scholarship from the Moton Family Challenge Scholarship committee as they head to college this fall.

Moton’s Family Challenge Scholarships are awarded to college-bound high school seniors who are direct lineal descendants of students affected by the public-school closings in Prince Edward County from 1959 and 1964. The scholarships are renewable to fulltime students for up to three years after their first award.

The scholarship committee is thankful for the additional funding received from Dr. Twitty Styles, Barrye, Angus and Geoffrey Wall for the expanded mission and are honored to play a role in these students’ academic futures. The Moton Museum’ s Family Challenge Team understands the importance of sowing seeds into our future leaders.
