MAY 2
FREE MUSIC – Sandy River Distillery, located at 147 Monroe Church Road in Rice, will host musician Gabe Cash on Friday, May 2, starting at 5 p.m.
LADIES RETREAT – The 27th annual Ladies Retreat for the Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will be held on Friday, May 2. That’ll run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a theme of “Being an Overcomer”. The guest speaker is Ellie Lofaro, an author featured on CBN, Focus on the Family and other programs. There will be a complimentary dinner, special music, door prizes, fellowship and fun. You can register at farmvillechurchofchrist.org/ladies-retreat by April 23.
THEATRE PERFORMANCE – The Waterworks Players will perform “Red” by John Logan. An abstract artist faces the possibility that his crowning achievement could also prove to be his undoing. The show will run on Friday, May 2 starting at 7:30 p.m. at 25 SMI Way.

FARMVILLE COMMUNITY MARKET – The Farmville Community Marketplace, located at 213 North Street, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
FARMVILLE FLOWER & GARDEN FESTIVAL – The second annual Farmville Flower & Garden Festival will take place Saturday, May 3, at Riverside Park. That’s located at 517 N. Main Street and it will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free to attend and open to all ages.
SPRINGFEST – Three Roads Brewing, located at 312 W. Third Street in Farmville, will host Springfest on Saturday, May 3. That will run from 1 p.m to 9 p.m. with music from Ella Folk and food from Fat Belly Brothers. There will also be cornhole and other outdoor games, along with a Spin of the Prize Wheel for a chance to win.

FREE MOVIE — The High Street Theatre, located at 102 High Street in Farmville, will host a screening of the underground rap documentary Escape The Matrix on Saturday, May 3, starting at 7 p.m. All High Street movies are free to the public.

WOMEN’S DAY – Jericho Baptist Church, located at 615 Franklin Street in Farmville, will celebrate their annual Women’s Day on Sunday, May 4, starting at 11 a.m. The guest preacher is Rev. Shandell Berryman-Howell, Pastor of New Witt Baptist Church.
WOMEN’S DAY – New Hope Baptist Church, located at 1909 Cartersville Road in New Canton, will host its annual Women’s Day service on Sunday, May 4, starting at 11 a.m. The guest preacher will be Rev. Angela P. Jones, associate minister at Second Liberty Baptist Church in Dillwyn. Music will be provided by the Second Liberty Baptist Church Choir.
USHERS’ ANNIVERSARY – Midway Baptist Church’s Usher’s Ministry will celebrate their anniversary on Sunday, May 4, during the 11 a.m. service. The guest minister will be Pastor Tammy Mitchell of Bethlehem Baptist Church, along with her choir and ushers. Ushers are asked to wear their uniform. Midway is located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville.
SIP N’ SHOP – Sandy River Distillery, located at 147 Monroe Church Road in Rice, will host a Sip N’ Shop event with more than 20 vendors. The event begins at noon and ends at 4 p.m. There will be live music with Brian Graham from noon to 3 p.m. and the Back Sydney Band from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

BEEKEEPERS MEETING – The Heart of Virginia Beekeepers will meet Tuesday, May 6, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Extension Office near Lowe’s. That’s located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. Dr. Scott Starr of Hampden-Sydney College will speak about progress, successes and challenges at HSC’s new apiary. BBQ FUNDRAISER – The Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department will host a chicken BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, May 10. That’ll take place at the Route 13 firehouse. Chicken halves will be ready by noon at a cost of $10 per half. Pre-orders can be placed on the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary Facebook page or by texting 434-547-2686. All proceeds benefit the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department.

MINISTRY ANNIVERSARY – Midway Baptist Church’s Deaconess and Missionary Ministry will celebrate their anniversary on Sunday, May 11 at 10 a.m. Minister Mary Jackson will deliver the message, with all deaconesses and missionaries asked to wear white. Midway is located at 837 Guinea Road in Farmville.

SPRING BIBLE STUDY – New Store Baptist Church, located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville, will hold a special Spring Bible Study series titled “Understanding Spiritual Authority”. That will start on Tuesday, May 13 and run every Tuesday for the next six weeks. The study will go from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

REVIVAL – Jericho Baptist Church in Farmville will hold a spring revival from May 21 to May 23. Prayer and praise services start nightly at 6:45 p.m., with service at 7 p.m. Guest preachers will include Rev. Irma Watson from Midway Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 21. Then on Thursday, May 22, Rev. James Hurt from First Rock Baptist Church will deliver the message and on Friday, May 23, Rev. Kevin Bolden from Oak Grove Baptist Church will preach.
MAY 31
COMMON SENSE FUNDRAISER – The Southside Virginia Common Sense Republican PAC will hold its second annual fundraiser on Saturday, May 31. That’ll be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Barn at Poor House Farm, with music by singer/songwriter Tommy Wood. Food will be catered by The Fishin’ Pig, with a menu including catfish, bbq chicken, baked beans, mac n’ cheese, coleslaw, a roll and a non-alcoholic drink.
