The March meeting of the Ruth Adams Garden club was held at the Farmville Library on March 26. This marks the beginning of the club’s 46th year. Newly elected president, Belinda Coles gave a slideshow presentation, “The Flowers of Holland”, of a visit she had made to the Keukenhof Gardens in Amsterdam.
The group also looked back over the newly finished 45th year. During the fall, the club enjoyed celebrating 45 years of fun, friendship, and garden education with a tea party. Tables were decorated with floral arrangements and set with lovely china teacups and teapots. Members enjoyed delicious treats and hot teas. Hostesses were Lois Gager, Betty Meadows, and Carol Fields.
Also, during the fall quarter, the club had an interesting presentation on African Violets by Jill Fischer. She brought several of her lovely violets and gave many tips on the care and feeding of the plants. Jill gave each member a leaf to propagate.
At the November meeting, members decorated artificial wreaths with Christmas baubles and bows. The wreaths were delivered to Brookview Lodge at The Woodland to decorate the doors of the residents.
The club wrapped up their 45th year with a luncheon at Shogun Restaurant. After a delicious lunch, election of officers was held: Belinda Coles – President, Carol Fields – Treasurer, Janet Conboy – Secretary, Program Chair – LouAnn Dumminger, Awards Chair – Pat Smith, and Design Committee – Nan Colvin and Lois Gager. Christmas floral arrangements made by club members were delivered to Farmville Health and Rehabilitation Center to decorate the tables in the dining room.
Interested women are invited to join the Ruth Adams Garden Club which is held at the Farmville Library, 2 p.m. the 4th Wednesday of the month.
