Mary Dodd Mason, 85, passed away peacefully on April 1, at her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmitt W. and Mary H. Dodd; her two infant daughters, Amy Elizabeth and Ellen Paige Mason; and her brother, Harold E. Dodd.
Following her graduation from Randolph Henry High School in Charlotte County, Mary received a two-year secretarial certificate from Longwood College in 1959. She then spent her career working in that capacity for several people in the Farmville area.
Mary, however, will be best remembered as a strong Christian woman and a faithful member of Heritage Baptist Church. She shared her many talents in the church by serving as a Sunday school teacher and singing in the choir. Mary blessed not only church members, but also neighbors and family, with her love of cooking. Her sourdough bread will be remembered by many. Another gift that Mary shared with others was her ability to write poetry. She composed many poems about family and church members throughout the years.
Mary is survived by her husband of 64 years, Thomas B. Mason; son, Scott Mason and his wife, Ann; two granddaughters, Mary Ann Billett (Spencer) and Emily M. Claud (Logan); three great-grandchildren, Maggie Spencer, Pippin Claud and Meridock Claud; two sisters, Toy D. Adams and Catherine D. Mylum, and one brother, Ralph L. Dodd (Nancy).
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 4, at 1:30 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church. A visitation/reception will precede the service beginning at 12 p.m.
Memorial contributions can be made in Mary’s memory to a charity of your choice.
