I truly would like someone to explain to me why it is everyone gets so caught up in national politics, but can’t or won’t say a thing when it comes to local. I hate to tell you, but President Trump is not to blame when Farmville raises taxes. If I understand correctly, that’s because your town council wants to spend millions on a firehouse renovation. President Trump didn’t make Cumberland supervisors enter into a deal to bring in a massive landfill.
The road concerns I have and my annoyance at them in Prince Edward County? Nope, that’s not a presidential problem either. Actually, I have to say VDOT folks have fixed up and patched everything on my road, so barring a sinkhole or something similar, we’re in good shape. But regardless, I only see people caring enough to show up or write letters or make comments when it’s about solar or heaven forbid a Republican dare say something in approval of the current president. That’s it. Well, that’s it until the tax bills start rolling in this fall. And then I guarantee you’ll hear gasps and folks yelling about how nobody told them and how it was all done in secret. No, none of this stuff has been done in secret. You just didn’t care until you got the bill.
Governance starts here at home. Congress isn’t to blame for your county’s situation. President Trump isn’t either. It might be nice at some point for people to focus more on the local than the national. I wonder what we could change and how we could make things better if we bothered to do that? Just my two cents.
