The Herald Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@FarmvilleHerald.com
APRIL 5
MUSEUM REOPENS – The Adams Museum and the Housewright House Museum will be open on April 5, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for the museums, which are located at 13016 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham, across from the Buckingham Courthouse on Route 60.
VILLAGE REOPENS – The Historic Buckingham Village at Lee Wayside will reopen on Saturday, April 5, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission and the Historic Village is located at 84 Lee Wayside Road in Buckingham, about two miles east of Sprouses Corner.
WOMEN’S DAY – The women of Mercy Seat Baptist Church will hold a Women’s Day Gospel Program on Saturday, April 5, starting at 2 p.m.
FREE LOCAL MUSIC – North Street Press Club, located at 127 North Street in Farmville, will host musician Maggie Baugh, on Saturday, April 5, beginning at 9 p.m.
APRIL 6
FAMILY & FRIENDS DAY – St. Douglas Baptist Church, located at 151 Nelson Lane, will celebrate Family and Friends Day on Sunday, April 6 during the 11 a.m. service. St. Douglas Pastor Rev. Loretta Bailey will deliver the message.
SPECIAL SERVICE – Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Dillwyn will celebrate a special service on Sunday, April 6, starting at 11 a.m. They will celebrate the church’s oldest member, 103-year-old Mrs. Elizabeth Chambers. They will have birthday cards for Mrs. Chambers, along with a sermon from Rev. Jason Holman and songs of praise from the Fork Union Baptist Church Choir. Ice cream and cake will be served afterwards.
FARMERS MARKET OPENS – The Cumberland Farmer’s Market, located at 1874 Anderson Highway, will open on Sunday, April 6, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

CURDSVILLE POTLUCK – The Curdsville Community Center will hold a potluck dinner on Monday, April 7, followed by Trivia Night. Residents are invited to come and test their knowledge with questions in multiple categories. Gather friends and family to form a team, join a team when you arrive or go solo. Everyone is asked to bring a dish or dessert to share. The Center is located at 122 School Road, just off Route 15.
CIVIL WAR EVENT – Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold events honoring the 160th anniversary of the Appomattox campaign of the American Civil War. On Monday, April 7, starting at 6:30 p.m., there will be an “Examination of the Battle of Cumberland Church” at the church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road (Route 45). The free event will include discussions with historians in period dress.
CUMBERLAND REPUBLICANS – The Cumberland County Republican Committee will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, April 7 at Spruceberry Farm. That’s located at 94 Cartersville Road in Cumberland. Members and nonmembers interested in the committee’s work are invited.

LADIES FELLOWSHIP – Peaks Baptist Church will hold a Ladies Fellowship on Tuesday, April 8, with an invitation to all women in the community. That’ll run from 11 a.m. to noon, with Bible Study, games and prizes, including a carry-home lunch. The church is located at 1948 Peaks Road in Prospect.

LENTEN LUNCHEON – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host a Lenten Luncheon on Wednesday, April 9, beginning at noon. Lunch will be provided, with Rev. Rick Bucher speaking at 12:30 p.m.

YARD AND BAKE SALE – The Curdsville Community Center will hold a yard sale and bake sale on Saturday, April 12. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone interested in renting a table to sell items or crafts can call Leah at 412-877-2904 to book a table for $15. The Community Center is located at 122 School Road, just off Route 15, halfway between Farmville and Dillwyn.
PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY – Forest Baptist Church in Meherrin will celebrate Pastor and First Lady Walker on their 5th Pastoral Anniversary on Saturday, April 12. The service will start at 3 p.m., with Rev. Rolando Twine from Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount delivering the message.
SPAGHETTI SUPPER – The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host a spaghetti supper fundraiser on Saturday, April 12. That’ll run from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Prospect Firehouse, located at 45 Campbell Hill Road in the Village of Prospect. The meal will include spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert, tea and lemonade. The cost is a donation at the door. Sauce by the quart will be available for $8 while supplies last. Both eat-in or carry-out options are available.

PALM SUNDAY – The congregations of Cumberland and Guinea Presbyterian Churches will hold Palm Sunday services on Sunday, April 13. That begins at 10 a.m. for Guinea and 11:15 a.m. for Cumberland. Cumberland Presbyterian is located at 1835 Cumberland Road, while Guinea is at 1176 Guinea Road in Farmville.

GARDEN CLUB – The Buckingham-Dillwyn Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, April 15, starting at 10 a.m. That’ll take place at the Cooperative Extension Office, located at 54 Administration Lane in Buckingham.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING – The Farmville-Prince Edward Historical Society will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 15, starting at 7 p.m. at the Farmville Train Station. This month’s topic will be the Sears & Roebuck Company Home Kits. The presentation will also look at the Sears homes in the Farmville area. The train station is located on West Third Street.

GOOD FRIDAY – The Green Creek New Site Baptist Church, located at 573 River Road in Farmville, will celebrate Good Friday with a service on Friday, April 18, starting at 7 p.m. The theme will be “The Three Crosses” from Luke 23:33-43. Ministries from local and surrounding churches will present the three crosses, with the Midway Baptist Church Choir also on hand.
GOOD FRIDAY – Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold Good Friday services on Friday, April 18, beginning at 7 p.m.

EASTER EGG HUNT – Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, starting at 9 a.m.
EASTER EGG HUNT – Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, starting at 10 a.m. There will be a hot dog lunch afterwards.
CRUISE-IN – The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club will hold its first cruise-in on Saturday, April 19, at the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. That will run from 5 p.m. until dusk. Bring your classic or antique to show or just drop by and check them out. There will be a 50/50 raffle held as well.

EASTER SERVICES – Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 20, followed by breakfast at 7 a.m. and then Easter Worship at 8 a.m. There will be no Sunday School or 11 a.m. worship.
EASTER SERVICES – Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will celebrate Easter first with a 9 a.m. breakfast, followed by Bible Study at 10 a.m. and Easter Service at 11 a.m.

NAACP MEETING – The Prince Edward branch of the NAACP will hold its regular meeting on Monday, April 21, starting at 6 p.m. at the Moton Museum.
APRIL 26
SPAGHETTI DINNER – Members of the Friends of Barnabas Mission Teams will be hosting a spaghetti dinner and cake auction on Saturday, April 26, starting at 5:30 p.m. This will be held at Farmville United Methodist Church, with the proceeds going to support two medical mission trips in Honduras. There will be both gluten free and alpha gal options. It will start with dinner, have a brief presentation about the medical missions and wrap up with a cake/dessert auction.
MAY 2
LADIES RETREAT – The 27th annual Ladies Retreat for the Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will be held on Friday, May 2. That’ll run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a theme of “Being an Overcomer”. The guest speaker is Ellie Lofaro, an author featured on CBN, Focus on the Family and other programs. There will be a complimentary dinner, special music, door prizes, fellowship and fun. You can register at farmvillechurchofchrist.org/ladies-retreat by April 23.

WOMEN’S DAY – Jericho Baptist Church, located at 615 Franklin Street in Farmville, will celebrate their annual Women’s Day on Sunday, May 4, starting at 11 a.m. The guest preacher is Rev. Shandell Berryman-Howell, Pastor of New Witt Baptist Church.
