Betty Sue OliverBetty Sue Oliver, 88, was born in Crewe, on April 6, 1936, to the late Dorothy Mae Jones and William Clayton Ward. Betty, affectionately known as “Mother Oliver or Betty Sue” passed from this life into eternal life on March 20.  

In August 1956, she married the love of her life, Douglas Lee Oliver Jr. From this union they had eight children, Douglas III, Clyde, Melvin Maurice, Gwendolyn, Dolly, Kendra, Anita and Tammi.

Betty was a life-time member of the Temple of Judah Ministries (True Apostolic Church), in Richmond, under Bishop Melvin Williams Jr. She lived a life that was dedicated and consecrated to God.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Oliver Jr.; her mother, Dorothy Jones and her children; Douglas Oliver III, Clyde Oliver and Anita Oliver Johnson.  

She leaves to cherish her memories; her children, Melvin Maurice Oliver, Gwendolyn Kirby, Dolly Scruggs, Kendra Monroe and Tammi Jones; daughter in law, Marion Oliver; several siblings; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.  

A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m., at Dominion Worship Center in Crewe. 

Funeral arrangements were provided by Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home in Amelia.
