This week’s calendar spotlights events such as the annual Art Walk and the return of the Farmville Farmers Market. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@FarmvilleHerald.com
APRIL 26
FARMVILLE COMMUNITY MARKET – The Farmville Community Marketplace, located at 213 North Street, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
ART WALK – The annual Farmville Art Walk returns for another year, this time running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 26. The event will stretch on High Bridge Trail from the Train Station to Main Street, with more than 40 booths set up by local and out of town artists.
PRINCE EDWARD SPRING FLING – The Prince Edward County Elementary School PTO organization will hold their annual Spring Fling on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Prince Edward County Middle School. There will be free music, a bounce house, a petting zoo, facepainting, books, crafts and games, along with food trucks and other vendors.
INDIAN RELIC SHOW – Historic Buckingham will host their annual Indian Relic Show and Primitive Technology Day on Saturday, April 26. That will take place at the Historic Village at Lee Wayside from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will feature demonstrations and hands-on events on blacksmithing, primitive weapons, and flint knapping, along with live country music. Indian relic collectors from across the state will be on hand, and there will be an arrowhead hunt for kids at 1 p.m. There is no admission charge, and lunch will be available.
CRUISE-IN – Darlington Heights Volunteer Fire Department, located at 2673 Darlington Heights Road in Pamplin, will hold their third annual Spring Cruise-In benefit on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free, with dash plaques for the first 75 show cars. Fresh grilled food will be available for purchase, with live music and plenty of parking.
FREE BLUEGRASS MUSIC – Spruceberry Farm, located at 94 Cartersville Road in Cumberland, will hold a free bluegrass concert on Saturday, April 26, featuring national recording artist Joe Hott and the Short Mountain Boys. The event will run from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., with doors opening at 11 a.m.
TEA IN THE AFTERNOON – Johns Memorial Episcopal Church will hold Tea in the Afternoon on Saturday, April 26, starting at 2 p.m. The event will take place in the Parish Hall, with funds going to support Madeline’s House, the Farmville shelter for victims of domestic abuse. The event will feature Karen Donnelly, a tea sommelier, who will prepare three types of tea and offer background on the history of tea and provide ideas for cooking with tea. SPAGHETTI DINNER – Members of the Friends of Barnabas Mission Teams will be hosting a spaghetti dinner and cake auction on Saturday, April 26, starting at 5:30 p.m. This will be held at Farmville United Methodist Church, with the proceeds going to support two medical mission trips in Honduras. There will be both gluten free and alpha gal options. It will start with dinner, have a brief presentation about the medical missions and wrap up with a cake/dessert auction.
FREE MOVIE — The High Street Theatre, located at 102 High Street in Farmville, will host a screening of the 1955 James Dean classic drama Rebel Without a Cause on Saturday, April 26, starting at 7 p.m. All High Street movies are free to the public.
THEATRE PERFORMANCE – The Waterworks Players will perform “Red” by John Logan. An abstract artist faces the possibility that his crowning achievement could also prove to be his undoing. The show will run on Saturday, April 26 starting at 7:30 p.m. at 25 SMI Way.
APRIL 27
BASEBALL CARD AND COLLECTOR SHOW – Longwood University’s Joan Perry Brock Center will host the Pirate Dog Baseball Card and Collector Show on Sunday, April 27, starting at 10 a.m. and running until 6 p.m. There will be sports cards, trading card games and more than 80 tables. There is a $2 fee for the general public to enter. Longwood students, faculty and staff get in free with Lancer card.
USHER’S MINISTRY – Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland will celebrate the 78th anniversary of its Usher’s Ministry on Sunday, April 27, starting at 10 a.m. Rev. Hilda Foster, Associate Minister of Gravel Hill Baptist Church, will be the guest preacher.
FAMILY & FRIENDS DAY – Old Green Creek Baptist Church, located at 282 Cooks Road in Farmville, will hold Family & Friends Day on Sunday, April 27, starting at 11 a.m. Minister Whitney Byrd-Clair will share a sermon, while special guests, including Justin Miles of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, will render the music.
FAMILY & FRIENDS DAY – Monroe Baptist Church will hold Family and Friends Day on Sunday, April 27. Worship starts at 11 a.m., followed by light refreshments and then a second service at 1:30 p.m. The Cornerstone Men’s Chorus will be featured guests, as well as One in Mime.

CHURCH ANNIVERSARY – Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, located at 1913 Tuggle Road in Farmville, will celebrate 150 years of worship on Sunday, April 27. The event will begin at 2 p.m., with Rev. James Ashton, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Farmville, delivering the message.
PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY – Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, located at 342 Mount Pleasant Road in Pamplin, will celebrate Pastor and First Lady Chambers on their second pastoral anniversary on Sunday, April 27. The event will start at 3 p.m., with Pastor Charles Woolfolk delivering the message and the choir from White Oak providing the music.
WOMEN’S DAY – New Witt Baptist Church, located at 7469 Meherrin Road in Farmville, will hold a Women’s Day program on Sunday, April 27, starting at 3 p.m. Rev. Sheilah Bell from Praise 104.7 FM will deliver the message, with music provided by the United Voices of Westwood Baptist Church.
APRIL 28
DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its regular meeting at the Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville.
MAY 1
RUMINANT MEETING – The Southern Virginia Small Ruminant Association and Virginia Cooperative Extension will hold a pasture walk and small ruminant parasite management workshop on May 1, beginning at 6 p.m. That will take place at J-Mar Farm, located at 3921 County Line Road in Cullen. Nicole Valliere with Virginia Tech will discuss “Integrated Parasite Management: Creating a Toolbox for Success”.
BIRD CLUB MEETING – The Margaret Watson Bird Club will hold a special event on Thursday, May 1. Dr. Alix Fink will highlight the many critical contributions of our national parks. Fink is the associate provost for research and academic initiatives and a professor of biology at Longwood University, having been a faculty member since 2001. The event will be at 100 Dominion Drive, across from Lowe’s in Farmville, with light refreshments at 6:30 a.m. and the program beginning at 7 a.m.
MAY 2
LADIES RETREAT – The 27th annual Ladies Retreat for the Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will be held on Friday, May 2. That’ll run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a theme of “Being an Overcomer”. The guest speaker is Ellie Lofaro, an author featured on CBN, Focus on the Family and other programs. There will be a complimentary dinner, special music, door prizes, fellowship and fun. You can register at farmvillechurchofchrist.org/ladies-retreat by April 23.

WOMEN’S DAY – Jericho Baptist Church, located at 615 Franklin Street in Farmville, will celebrate their annual Women’s Day on Sunday, May 4, starting at 11 a.m. The guest preacher is Rev. Shandell Berryman-Howell, Pastor of New Witt Baptist Church.
