William Hughes Gates, 82 of Farmville, passed away on March 10. He was born on Dec. 8, 1942 to the late John Aumon and Doris Hughes Gates.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Aumon Gates Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Boss Gates; his children, Anne Gates Muccio (husband, James David Muccio) of Georgia and Susan Gates Murphy of New Hampshire; grandchildren, Rachel Anne Muccio, Connor James Muccio, Sean Philip Muccio and Megan Rose Murphy and sister, Carolyn Mae Martin. His children are from his first wife, Lila Jane Gates.
Bill’s second wife, Nancy, was a wonderful and loving wife. She helped Bill in so many ways. Bill grew up on a dairy farm milking cows and working the crops. He operated the family farm after his father died doing hay crops. He sold hay to people that needed hay for their animals. Bill started his landscaping business “Holly Brook Farm Landscaping and Lawn Care”. Which he operated for 25 years. He specialized in grading and seeding lawns. He loved operating his bulldozer and equipment. He worked for many homeowners and land owners.
Bill loved to hunt and target practice with his guns and pistols.
He loved life and was always working on something, he could fix anything. He liked to work on his cars and trucks and equipment. Bill was like his mother in that he loved to talk to people. He was truly a country boy and will surely be missed by all.
