Letter to the Editor: Cumberland is a do-nothing county

Cumberland County government has no real leadership;

I myself am new to Cumberland, I don’t know the good old boys or the bad old boys, but a blind person can see that this county is in desperate need of people with brains, ambition and a desire to do what is right and best for the citizens of the county.

The Farmville Herald reported that the Courthouse has record rooms flooding, and mold and mildew as a result. Why? Because someone forgot to stay in school past the first grade to learn that water flows down, not up, so run a clear proper sized drainpipe to a lower elevation, or dig a sump in the bottom of this room, install an automatic level controlled pump, to keep the sump empty of water and not allow the room to flood. Also why  do we have doors at the DMV and treasurers office that will not stay locked. Get a reputable door company to fix or replace the doors and locks. The smoke detectors are old and unreliable, again, contact a licensed FM fire alarm company to install modern smoke-temp-fire sensors as needed. And more items need attention.

Why do I need to tell the County these basic fundamental things they have already been advised of but then do nothing logical to remedy?

This craziness goes on and on, as if this was 1812. Not 2025. This county has a surplus budget, what it needs is an active functioning board of supervisors who are awake and who will act on these necessary problems, or resign so we can get someone who will do their job.

This is Cumberland County’s Achilles heel, take no action, for anything positive, this is a do nothing county. If anything I have said here is not true, please tell me.

Cumberland County must get better leadership.
