MARCH 8
FREE LOCAL MUSIC — Charley’s Waterfront Cafe, located at 201 B. Mill Street in Farmville, will host musician Carter Freeman on Saturday, March 8, beginning at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
FREE LOCAL MUSIC – North Street Press Club, located at 127 North Street in Farmville, will host country music group Barefoot Joe, on Saturday, March. 8, beginning at 9 p.m.

WOMEN’S DAY – First Rock Baptist Church of Prospect will hold a Women’s Day program on Sunday, March 9, beginning at 2 p.m. Rev. Irma Watson, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church in Cumberland, will be the guest minister, accompanied by the Midway Baptist Church Male Chorus.
WOMEN’S DAY – First Baptist Church, located at 100 Main Street in Farmville, will hold Women’s Day 2025 on Sunday, March 9, during the 11 a.m. service. Rev. Dr. Osa S. Dowdy from Springfield Baptist Church will deliver the message.
TOWNHALL MEETING – CCLA (Cumberland County Landfill Alert) will hold a townhall meeting on Sunday, Feb. 9. That’ll begin at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland County Community Center, the former Luther P. Jackson School, located at 71 Community Drive. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the upcoming Planning Commission Public Hearing on the new conditional use permit request by Green Ridge for the landfill.

LENTEN LUNCHEON – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host a Lenten Luncheon on Wednesday, March 12, beginning at noon. Lunch will be provided, with Rev. Betty Lou Weaver speaking at 12:30 p.m.

CHURCH ANNIVERSARY – The Missionary Ministry of Sharon Baptist Church will celebrate its 103rd anniversary on Sunday, March 16 during the 10 a.m. worship service. Rev. Shandell Berryman Howell, pastor of New Witt Baptist Church, will deliver the message.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING – The Farmville-Prince Edward Historical Society will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 18, beginning at 7 p.m. This will be held at the Farmville Train Station, located on West Third Street, with a focus on one of the early homes on High Street. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

LENTEN LUNCHEON – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host a Lenten Luncheon on Wednesday, March 12, beginning at noon. Lunch will be provided, with Rev. Jim Price speaking at 12:30 p.m.
MARCH 20
COOKING DEMONSTRATION – The Friends of Twin Lakes State Park will demonstrate different types of outdoor cooking on Thursday, March 20, including pie iron, Dutch oven and paper bag cooking. This will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with the demonstration held at Shelter 1 in the Day Use area of the park. The event is free but the $7 parking fee will apply. MOAA MEETING – MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) will hold their monthly self-pay lunch meeting on Friday, March 21, starting at 12:30 p.m. That’ll be held at Charley’s Waterfront Cafe in Farmville. The speaker will be Betsy Eves, a military spouse focused on advocacy and caregiving for the military community. She is the founder of Rock Island Farm in Scottsville.

PANCAKE SUPPER – The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a pancake supper fundraiser on Saturday, March 22 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This will be at the Prospect firehouse, located at 45 Campbell Hill Road in the Village of Prospect. Side items will include sausage, bacon, apples and a drink. The cost is a donation at the door.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST – The Piedmont Area Veterans Council will hold a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser on Tuesday, March 25. That will run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Merk’s Place, located at 2106 W. Third Street in Farmville. There will be a 50/50 drawing, raffle items and a silent auction. A percentage from each sale will go to the veterans council.

LENTEN LUNCHEON – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host a Lenten Luncheon on Wednesday, March 12, beginning at noon. Lunch will be provided, with Rev. Helen Cannon speaking at 12:30 p.m.

PRAYER BREAKFAST – A men’s prayer breakfast will be held at Triumph Baptist Church on Saturday, March 29, starting at 10 a.m. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen.
CHOIR CONCERT – Sharon Baptist Church will present an Alleluia Choir Concert in honor of First Lady Rev. Sybil Franklin Jones on Saturday, March 29, beginning at 3 p.m. The concert is in tribute to her more than 50 years of dedicated service to the music ministry at Sharon. The choir will consist of members from all past choirs of the church.

BIKERS BLESSING – Shiloh Baptist Church will celebrate the Bikers Blessing on Sunday, March 30, starting at 10 a.m. Steve Hurt and the Shiloh Praise Ensemble will provide the music, with Rev. Dr. Horace Parham delivering the message. Lunch will be served after the service. Bikers are asked to contact Eugene Wells if they plan to attend by calling 434-547-7037.
MEN’S DAY – Triumph Baptist Church, located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen, will hold Men’s Day on Sunday, March 30, during the 11 a.m. service. Rev. Stanley Wesley, pastor of Peaks Baptist Church will deliver the message, accompanied by the Peaks Baptist Church Male Chorus.
