MARCH 28 

VFW OPEN HOUSE – The VFW Post 7059 will host a Vietnam Veterans Day Open House on Saturday, March 28, running from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be a short program, followed by an invitation for any veterans to share their story. The Post is located at 1616 Graham Road in Farmville and for more information, call Post Commander Jay Fort at 606-284-8849.

FREE LOCAL MUSIC — Charley’s Waterfront Cafe, located at 201 B. Mill Street in Farmville, will host music group No Charge on Friday, March 28, beginning at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

FREE MOVIE — The High Street Theatre, located at 102 High Street in Farmville, will host a screening of the 2001 Wes Anderson movie Royal Tenenbaums on Friday, March 28, starting at 7 p.m. All High Street movies are free to the public.

MARCH 29 

PRAYER BREAKFAST – A men’s prayer breakfast will be held at Triumph Baptist Church on Saturday, March 29, starting at 10 a.m. The church is located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen.

FARMVILLE EASTER EGG HUNT – The Town of Farmville will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 29. That’ll be held at the Sports Arena, located at 1328 Zion Hill Road and run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 

CHOIR CONCERT – Sharon Baptist Church will present an Alleluia Choir Concert in honor of First Lady Rev. Sybil Franklin Jones on Saturday, March 29, beginning at 3 p.m. The concert is in tribute to her more than 50 years of dedicated service to the music ministry at Sharon. The choir will consist of members from all past choirs of the church.

FREE MOVIE — The High Street Theatre, located at 102 High Street in Farmville, will host a screening of the 1948 Humphrey Bogart movie The Treasure of the Sierra Madre on Saturday, March 29, starting at 7 p.m. All High Street movies are free to the public. 

FREE LOCAL MUSIC — Charley’s Waterfront Cafe, located at 201 B. Mill Street in Farmville, will host musician Chaz Knapp on Saturday, March 29, beginning at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

FREE LOCAL MUSIC – North Street Press Club, located at 127 North Street in Farmville, will host musical group Council Ring, on Saturday, March 29, beginning at 9 p.m.

MARCH 30 

BIKERS BLESSING – Shiloh Baptist Church will celebrate the Bikers Blessing on Sunday, March 30, starting at 10 a.m. Steve Hurt and the Shiloh Praise Ensemble will provide the music, with Rev. Dr. Horace Parham delivering the message. Lunch will be served after the service. Bikers are asked to contact Eugene Wells if they plan to attend by calling 434-547-7037. 

MEN’S DAY – Triumph Baptist Church, located at 2756 Darlington Heights Road in Cullen, will hold Men’s Day on Sunday, March 30, during the 11 a.m. service. Rev. Stanley Wesley, pastor of Peaks Baptist Church will deliver the message, accompanied by the Peaks Baptist Church Male Chorus.

BLACK HISTORY SERVICE – Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, located at 1913 Tuggle Road in Farmville, will hold a Black History program on Sunday, March 30, starting at 2 p.m. There will be poems, a dramatization and other talents on display. 

CHURCH BENEFIT – High Bridge Baptist Church will hold a benefit program on Sunday, March 30 for Sister Dorothy “Cill” Eanes. That’ll take place at 2 p.m. Pastor Tim will deliver the message, with a guest choir to provide music. 

APRIL 1

BEEKEEPERS MEETING – The Heart of Virginia Beekeepers will meet on Tuesday, April 1. That’ll start at 7 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. APRIL 2 

LENTEN LUNCHEON – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host a Lenten Luncheon on Wednesday, April 2, beginning at noon. Lunch will be provided. 

COOKIE WALK – The Friends of the Cumberland Library will hold a Spring Fling Cookie Walk on Wednesday, April 2. That’ll take place between noon and 5 p.m. 

MUSEUM REOPENS – Historic Buckingham’s two museums , the Adams Museum and the Housewright House Museum will reopen on April 2. Both museums will be open to the public every Wednesday and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. All are welcome and there is no admission charge. The museums are located at 13016 W James Anderson Hwy, Buckingham –across from the Courthouse on Rt. 60

APRIL 3

PARKING LOT SALE – The Piedmont Area Veterans Council, located at 2650 West Third Street in Farmville, will hold a parking lot sale fundraiser on Thursday, April 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

BIRD CLUB MEETING – The Margaret Watson Bird Club will have a special presentation on Thursday, April 3. Two of the club’s members, David Spears and Damien Fehrer will present highlights of their journey to and from Antarctica. In early 2024, they traveled from Chile to the Antarctic Peninsula, with stops in South America along the way. They encountered nearly 100 different species of birds, including penguins, albatross and petrels, also encountering whales, dolphins and seals. The meeting starts with light refreshments at 6:30 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. 

LUNCH AND LEARN – “Food Preservation” will be the topic of the Thursday, April 3 Lunch and Learn program. That’ll be held at noon at the Buckingham Extension Office, located at 54 Administration Lane in Buckingham and conducted by the Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners. Speakers will be Ruth Wallace, Extension Agent in Buckingham, and Karen Kazmer, Master Gardener. They will explain and demonstrate the science behind food preservation methods like canning, freezing, freeze drying, and making jams and jellies. Bring your pressure canner lid with dial gauge to be tested for accuracy. There is no charge for the program. Residents are invited to bring a bag lunch. 

CIVIL WAR EVENT – Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold events honoring the 160th anniversary of the Appomattox campaign of the American Civil War. On Thursday, April 3, starting at 6 p.m., there will be an “Examination of the Federal High Command in April 1865” at the church, located at 1835 Cumberland Road (Route 45). The free event will include discussions with historians in period dress. 

APRIL 5 

MUSEUM REOPENS – The Adams Museum and the Housewright House Museum will be open on April 5, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for the museums, which are located at 13016 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham, across from the Buckingham Courthouse on Route 60. 

VILLAGE REOPENS – The Historic Buckingham Village at Lee Wayside will reopen on Saturday, April 5, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission and the Historic Village is located at 84 Lee Wayside Road in Buckingham, about two miles east of Sprouses Corner.

WOMEN’S DAY – The women of Mercy Seat Baptist Church will hold a Women’s Day Gospel Program on Saturday, April 5, starting at 2 p.m. 

FREE LOCAL MUSIC – North Street Press Club, located at 127 North Street in Farmville, will host musician Maggie Baugh, on Saturday, April 5, beginning at 9 p.m.

APRIL 6 

FAMILY & FRIENDS DAY – St. Douglas Baptist Church, located at 151 Nelson Lane, will celebrate Family and Friends Day on Sunday, April 6 during the 11 a.m. service. St. Douglas Pastor Rev. Loretta Bailey will deliver the message. 

VILLAGE OPENS – The Historic Buckingham Village at Lee Wayside will be open on Sunday, April 6, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission and the Historic Village is located at 84 Lee Wayside Road in Buckingham, about two miles east of Sprouses Corner.

APRIL 7 

CURDSVILLE POTLUCK – The Curdsville Community Center will hold a potluck dinner on Monday, April 7, followed by Trivia Night. Residents are invited to come and test their knowledge with questions in multiple categories. Gather friends and family to form a team, join a team when you arrive or go solo. Everyone is asked to bring a dish or dessert to share. The Center is located at 122 School Road, just off Route 15.

LADIES FELLOWSHIP – Peaks Baptist Church will hold a Ladies Fellowship on Tuesday, April 8, with an invitation to all women in the community. That’ll run from 11 a.m. to noon, with Bible Study, games and prizes, including a carry-home lunch. The church is located at 1948 Peaks Road in Prospect. 

APRIL 9 

LENTEN LUNCHEON – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host a Lenten Luncheon on Wednesday, April 9, beginning at noon. Lunch will be provided, with Rev. Rick Bucher speaking at 12:30 p.m. 

APRIL 12 

YARD AND BAKE SALE – The Curdsville Community Center will hold a yard sale and bake sale on Saturday, April 12. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone interested in renting a table to sell items or crafts can call Leah at 412-877-2904 to book a table for $15. The Community Center is located at 122 School Road, just off Route 15, halfway between Farmville and Dillwyn. 

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY – Forest Baptist Church in Meherrin will celebrate Pastor and First Lady Walker on their 5th Pastoral Anniversary on Saturday, April 12. The service will start at 3 p.m., with Rev. Rolando Twine from Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount delivering the message. 

APRIL 15 

GARDEN CLUB – The Buckingham-Dillwyn Garden Club will meet on Tuesday, April 15, starting at 10 a.m. That’ll take place at the Cooperative Extension Office, located at 54 Administration Lane in Buckingham. 

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING – The Farmville-Prince Edward Historical Society will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 15, starting at 7 p.m. at the Farmville Train Station. This month’s topic will be the Sears & Roebuck Company Home Kits. The presentation will also look at the Sears homes in the Farmville area. The train station is located on West Third Street. 

APRIL 16 

LENTEN LUNCHEON – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will host a Lenten Luncheon on Wednesday, April 16, beginning at noon. Lunch will be provided, with Rev. Louis Brandt speaking at 12:30 p.m. 

APRIL 18 

GOOD FRIDAY – The Green Creek New Site Baptist Church, located at 573 River Road in Farmville, will celebrate Good Friday with a service on Friday, April 18, starting at 7 p.m. The theme will be “The Three Crosses” from Luke 23:33-43. Ministries from local and surrounding churches will present the three crosses, with the Midway Baptist Church Choir also on hand. 

APRIL 19 

EASTER EGG HUNT – Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, starting at 9 a.m. 

CRUISE-IN – The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club will hold its first cruise-in on Saturday, April 19, at the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. That will run from 5 p.m. until dusk. Bring your classic or antique to show or just drop by and check them out. There will be a 50/50 raffle held as well. 

APRIL 20 

EASTER SERVICES – Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will celebrate Easter first with a 9 a.m. breakfast, followed by Bible Study at 10 a.m. and Easter Service at 11 a.m. 

APRIL 21 

NAACP MEETING – The Prince Edward branch of the NAACP will hold its regular meeting on Monday, April 21, starting at 6 p.m. at the Moton Museum. 

APRIL 26 

SPAGHETTI DINNER – Members of the Friends of Barnabas Mission Teams will be hosting a spaghetti dinner and cake auction on Saturday, April 26, starting at 5:30 p.m. This will be held at Farmville United Methodist Church, with the proceeds going to support two medical mission trips in Honduras. There will be both gluten free and alpha gal options. It will start with dinner, have a brief presentation about the medical missions and wrap up with a cake/dessert auction. 

MAY 2 

LADIES RETREAT – The 27th annual Ladies Retreat for the Farmville Church of Christ, located at 1401 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will be held on Friday, May 2. That’ll run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a theme of “Being an Overcomer”. The guest speaker is Ellie Lofaro, an author featured on CBN, Focus on the Family and other programs. There will be a complimentary dinner, special music, door prizes, fellowship and fun. You can register at farmvillechurchofchrist.org/ladies-retreat by April 23.

MAY 4

WOMEN’S DAY – Jericho Baptist Church, located at 615 Franklin Street in Farmville, will celebrate their annual Women’s Day on Sunday, May 4, starting at 11 a.m. The guest preacher is Rev. Shandell Berryman-Howell, Pastor of New Witt Baptist Church.
