Farmville Police, along with other regional law enforcement, are searching for four men who escaped the Farmville ICA facility earlier Sunday afternoon. The Farmville ICE detention center is managed by Immigration Centers of America (ICA).
“From information we have been able to obtain through conversations with the facility and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, these detainees are considered low-risk and were detained for non-violent offenses,” department officials said in a statement posted to their social media. “All four escapees were wearing bright yellow clothing at the time of escape.”
Farmville Police officials said all four were described as young Hispanic males, around their early 20s. As of 6 a.m. Monday morning, the search was continuing, with the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office announcing they would be continuing the hunt as well. Longwood University also issued a warning to students, urging them to stay inside.
The Farmville Warning System was activated as a precaution, letting residents know the four men were on the loose, however at this time, Farmville Police say it’s not believed they will pose a threat to the community.
The police will be increasing patrols throughout the night and engaging in surveillance to locate the escapees. Other law enforcement agencies are also helping in this endeavor. Police officials ask if you see anyone dressed like the description or saw something out of the ordinary, call the Farmville Police Department at 434-392-3332 or 911 immediately.
