Anthony Pinelli Jr., 79 of Appomattox, passed peacefully at his home on Monday, Feb. 24. He was the husband of Myrtice Dickens Pinelli for 59 years.
Born on May 7, 1945, in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Anthony Pinelli Sr. and Florence Vowell Pinelli Pearson. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and usher over the years. Tony was a graduate of the University of Richmond. He was a banker for 36 years and retired from The Farmers Bank of Appomattox as Executive Vice President.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Michael Warren Pinelli (Lisa) of Clermont, Florida, Anthony Scott Pinelli of Dillwyn and Timothy Edwin Pinelli (Lindsay) of Powhatan; three grandchildren, Anthony Morgan, Sahara Catherine, Rebecca Grace; one great-grandson, Warren Reid; and three brothers, Dr. Thomas Edward Pinelli (Diane) of Seaford, George Arthur Pinelli (Jayne) of New Kent and Robert Louis Pinelli of Dillwyn.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Michael Pinelli and a dear sister-in-law, Janet Heath.
Tony proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier, the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CVB42 and achieved the rank of E4 in his two years of active duty.
Tony served his community in various organizations but among his favorites were serving as President of the Appomattox County High School Band Booster’s Club and the Athletic Booster Club for several years, where he shared his love of Bluegrass by having the clubs sponsor concerts as fundraisers. He brought in many well-known Bluegrass Bands during the winter months. The funds raised helped buy new band uniforms and athletic equipment.
The family wishes to thank his caregiver, Teresa Brogden for her kind and loving care of Tony. Also, we would want to thank the amazing team at Heartland Hospice who were angels with their kind and respectful service to Tony.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m., at Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jonathan Watson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Old Herman Cemetery.
