Oct. 9, 1946 – Dec. 10, 2024.
Robby passed away on Dec. 10, 2024 at his home in Dillwyn. He was born on Oct. 9, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Robert H. “Bob” and June (Layland) Benart Sr. He relocated as a child to southern California with his parents, grandparents, and uncles and grew up there where they founded a precast concrete business still in existence today. After service in the U.S. Army, he followed his father into masonry contracting in California and central Virginia. Robby was a Viet Nam-era disabled veteran and the son and grandson of WWII and WWI veterans.
Robby was a passionate third-generation brick mason and took pride in owning Robert H. Benart Masonry. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling everywhere but the beach was his favorite, especially Jamaica. He attended Salem Church, Cumberland, and was often seen arriving at the parking lot with his beloved dog, Marley. Robby never met a stranger and loved to tell jokes. He lived a very full life and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his life partner, Rebecca Bryan; and his daughter, Brandy Ann McCrary.
He is survived by his daughter, Hope Lynn Lindsey and her son, John Tay Parman of Melbourne Florida, as well as her sons, Kyle Swanson of Fork Union and Michael Swanson of Palmyra; grandchildren, Kayla Ann McCrary of Arcata, California, Michael James McCrary (Delgadina) and children, Nohemi and Kayce of Redding, California, and Emily Lea Hemmert of Grenada, California; son, Mark Stone (Erin Good) and children, Jazz and Magnolia Good-Stone of Trumansburg, New York; sisters, Kimberlee J. Benart of Winter Springs, Florida, Tane R. Potter (Robert) of Oxford Pennsylvania, and Misty E. Armstrong (Christopher) of Ridge Manor, Florida; stepchildren, Rod Bryan (Kerri) of Troy and Samantha Bryan of Scottsville, and their children, Olivia and Alexis Bryan and Archer O’Connell. Robby is also survived by many special friends who were of great help to him.
