John Wesley Hackney, 58 of Farmville, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 4, surrounded by his family. Born in Farmville, he was a proud Navy veteran and worked as a trades technician at Longwood University for 25 years.
Wesley loved sports, cheering for the Cowboys, Yankees and Lakers, and was a fixture at Longwood Basketball games, working the shot clock. He was known for his humor, love of beach vacations, and dedication to family.
He is survived by his wife, Tammie Jo Hackney; son, John Michael Hackney; his parents, Laura J. Hogan and John W. Hackney; and his brothers, Mike Hogan, Leslie Hackney, and Aiden Hackney.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 6-8 p.m., at Puckett Funeral Home, with a funeral service on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m., at Puckett Funeral Home.
