Missing man found safe
Stephen Ray Auman has been found and is safe. That was the announcement Monday, Jan. 13 from the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office. Just before the winter storm last week, the sheriff’s office had put out a call for help, to try and locate the missing man. The 24-year-old had been last seen on Monday, Jan. 6 at 5 a.m., at a residence near the Prince Edward/Charlotte County line on Patrick Henry Highway. Prince Edward Sheriff Tony Epps thanked everyone who called or otherwise shared tips that helped in Auman’s identification.
Report cards postponed
Prince Edward County parents didn’t get report cards as expected from their children on Monday. You can thank last week’s winter storm for that. The Prince Edward school district put out a statement on Monday, Jan. 13, saying that due to school closures, report cards wouldn’t be distributed as originally planned.
“We will share the new distribution date as soon as it is available,” district officials said in a statement. “Thank you for your understanding and patience.”
Reid re-elected as vice mayor
When the Farmville Town Council held their first meeting of 2025, they had one quick piece of business to address. The group nominated and unanimously chose to re-elect Chuckie Reid as the town’s vice mayor.
“I thank everyone for their support and I hope we can continue to work together,” Reid said after the vote.
Longwood softball adds a game
You can put one more game on the schedule for Longwood softball. Team staff announced the group will play North Carolina Central on Sunday, Feb. 23. That’ll take place at 2 p.m. at Lancer Field. With the addition, Longwood will play 17 times at home in 2025. The Lancers open the season Feb. 7-9 at the 39th Annual Louisiana Classics in Louisiana, playing George Mason, Texas, Seton Hall and the host Ragin’ Cajuns.
