JANUARY 25
BAD KITTY ART EXHIBIT — The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts, located at 129 N. Main Street in Farmville, will host the “Bad Kitty Does Not Like Art Museums” exhibit from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25. The exhibit highlights the art from author and illustrator Nick Bruel, creator of the New York Times bestselling Bad Kitty series. For over 2o years, his stories have connected with children and adults alike. The exhibit is free.
AUTHOR TALK – Powhatan author Tom Walton will be at the Farmville library on Saturday, Jan. 25 to discuss his three books of poetry. The event will start at 2 p.m., with Tom doing a reading before starting a discussion with the audience. Refreshments will be served after the discussion. The Local Author Talk series is a partnership with the Friends of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL — The Hampden-Sydney College Tigers will continue their push to another NCAA tournament spot on Saturday, Jan. 25, as they play host to Ferrum College. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Kirby Field House, located at 198 Athletic Center Drive.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL — The Longwood men will look to keep their winning streak going as they play host to USC Upstate on Saturday, Jan. 25. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Joan Perry Brock Center, located at 405 Spruce Street on campus. This is Cumberland County Day at the game.
FREE LOCAL MUSIC – Sandy River Distillery, located at 147 Monroe Church Road in Rice, will host musician Gabe Cash on Saturday, Jan. 25. The music begins at 5 p.m.
FREE LOCAL MUSIC — Charley’s Waterfront Cafe, located at 201 B. Mill Street in Farmville, will host musician Craig Hansen on Saturday, Jan. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
FREE LOCAL MUSIC — Three Roads Brewing, located at 312 W. Third Street in Farmville, will host musical group Bluesided on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. The husband and wife duo perform as a full band.
FREE DOUBLEHEADER MOVIE — The High Street Theatre, located at 102 High Street in Farmville, will host two movies on Saturday. That starts with a screening of the 1969 Dennis Hopper biker classic Easy Rider, at 7 p.m. After that, it’s a 9 p.m. screening of the 1971 road trip movie Two-Lane Blacktop. All High Street movies are free to the public.
FREE LOCAL MUSIC – North Street Press Club, located at 127 North Street in Farmville, will host DJ Sir RJ for a Winter Marti Gras, on Saturday, Jan. 25, beginning at 9 p.m. The event is for those age 21 and over.

CENTRAL VIRGINIA ARTS – The Central Virginia Arts group will hold a New Beginnings party on Sunday, Jan. 26. That’ll run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Farmville Mill, located at 1 Mill Street in Farmville. During the meeting, the group will elect trustees to the board and officers for 2025.
FREE CONCERT – The Longwood Chamber Music Series will present a free concert from the Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia on Sunday, Jan. 26, beginning at 4 p.m. That’ll take place in Molnar Recital Hall, in the Wygal Music Building on Longwood’s campus. The concert, “A Year in Words and Music”, features vocalist Lisa Edwards-Burrs, violinist Nicholas di Eugenio, pianist Mimi Solomon and cellist James Wilson. Parking is available along Race Street, beside Greenwood Library and Bedford Hall.

DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 27 at the Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive. The event begins at 6 p.m.

DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Buckingham County Democratic Committee will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 28, beginning at 6 p.m. That’ll be held at the Ag Building, located at 54 Administration Lane. The gift drawing will begin again.
BEEKEEPERS SCHOOL – Beekeeping for Beginners School starts Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Prince Edward County Extension Office. That’s located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. Classes are held on three non-consecutive Tuesdays and one Monday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $50 per person, which includes a book, all four classes and a travel day at an apiary. REPUBLICAN MEETING – The Cumberland County Republican Committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3. That’ll be held at Spruceberry Farm, located at 94 Cartersville Road in Cumberland. Those interested in the committee’s work are invited to attend.
FEBRUARY 4
BEEKEEPERS MEETING – The Heart of Virginia Beekeepers will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Extension Office. That’s located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT – An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP – The Farmville Seventh Day Adventist Church will hold a free diabetes support group, running eight weeks and starting on Monday, Feb. 10. The meetings begin at 6 p.m. and you can call or text 434-395-9237 for more information. The church is located at 2086 Cumberland Road in Farmville. The cost of the course, including workbooks, recipes and other materials is $49.

VALENTINE’S DINNER – The Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department will host a Valentine’s Dinner on Friday, Feb. 14. For a $10 minimum donation, residents can get a spaghetti dinner with meat sauce, salad, bread and dessert. The event will run from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the firehouse, located at 2145 Cumberland Road.

FREE LOCAL MUSIC – Sandy River Distillery, located at 147 Monroe Church Road in Rice, will host musician Brian Graham on Saturday, Feb. 15. The music begins at 5 p.m.
BENEFIT DINNER – There will be a benefit dinner held at the Randolph District Firehouse on Saturday, Feb. 15 to raise money for the Raitter family. The family lost everything to a house fire on Dec. 30. The firehouse is located at 2145 Cumberland Road.
FEBRUARY 21
MOAA MEETING – The Military Officers Association of America will hold their monthly meeting on Friday, Feb. 21, beginning at 12:30 p.m. That’ll take place at Charley’s Waterfront Cafe in Farmville. The speaker will be Karen Cerwinski, chiropractor and Buckingham County electoral board member.
