JANUARY 18
BENEFIT CONCERT – A benefit gospel concert will take place on Saturday, Jan. 18, starting at 2 p.m. That will be for Deaconess Joyce Booker, a cancer fighter at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Cumberland County. The benefit will feature musical selections from Denise & The Traveling Aires, The Anointed Voices of Rice and the Traveling Angels of Farmville. Love donations will be taken for Joyce, to help with her medical needs. If you have any questions, please contact Jyniya Booker at 434-607-5921.
GOSPEL CONCERT – Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, the Kappa Rho Omega Chapter, will be sponsoring a Gospel music concert on Saturday, Jan. 18, starting at 3 p.m. That’ll be held at Prince Edward County High School, located at 35 Eagle Drive in Farmville. Performances will be provided by Anointed Sound, Cornerstone Baptist Church Male Choir, More Than Blessed, Voices For Christ, New Jerusalem Baptist Church Choir, Baptist Union Men’s Chorus and the Royal Supremes. The Master of Ceremony will be Rev. Dr. Cavell Phillips. A free will offering will be collected to support the sorority’s scholarship fund.
JANUARY 19
MORNING WORSHIP – Johns Memorial Episcopal Church, located at 400 High Street in Farmville will hold the second Sunday after Epiphany service on Sunday, Jan.19. Rite I,the Book of Common Prayer will be held at 8 a.m, while Rite 2 will be at 10:30 a.m. The church choir will lead music at the 10:30 service.
FRIENDS OF APPOMATTOX MEETING –Three Rods Brewery will host the Sunday, Jan. 19 meeting of the Friends of the Appomattox River, which will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a review of what’s been accomplished in 2024, followed by a sharing of ideas about 2025.
JANUARY 20
NAACP MEETING – The Prince Edward branch of the NAACp will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. That’ll be held at the Moton Museum in Farmville.
JANUARY 25
AUTHOR TALK – Powhatan author Tom Walton will be at the Farmville library on Saturday, Jan. 25 to discuss his three books of poetry. The event will start at 2 p.m., with Tom doing a reading before starting a discussion with the audience. Refreshments will be served after the discussion. The Local Author Talk series is a partnership with the Friends of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library.
JANUARY 27
DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 27 at the Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive. The event begins at 6 p.m.
JANUARY 28
BEEKEEPERS SCHOOL – Beekeeping for Beginners School starts Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Prince Edward County Extension Office. That’s located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. Classes are held on three non-consecutive Tuesdays and one Monday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The cost is $50 per person, which includes a book, all four classes and a travel day at an apiary. FEBRUARY 10
DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP – The Farmville Seventh Day Adventist Church will hold a free diabetes support group, running eight weeks and starting on Monday, Feb. 10. The meetings begin at 6 p.m. and you can call or text 434-395-9237 for more information. The church is located at 2086 Cumberland Road in Farmville.
