The good news is that the water’s flowing through the pipes again, the roads have reopened and the damage has been fixed. All of that just took a bit longer than expected. Crews from Farmville’s Public Works department were still at it long into the night on Tuesday, fixing a busted water main.
“It is an 8” line that appears to have cracked,” Farmville Town Manager Scott Davis explained.
That came due to natural causes, just worn away by time. Town officials confirmed there had been no accidents or any other type of incident that would have damaged the pipe and led to the water outage. It simply just cracked.
As a result, parts of East Third Street between Virginia Street and Bridge Street were closed all day and into the night on Tuesday, while some residents dealt with a water outage for a while. It took work crews a while to understand the full extent of the damage. Originally, Davis had said the goal was to have everything fixed, water restored to everyone and East Third Street reopened by the close of business on Tuesday. Instead, workers were still at it Tuesday night, only notifying police they were done by around 8 p.m.
