Trents Mill News: Daylight Saving Time comes and goes
Published 6:40 am Monday, November 11, 2024
Now that we’ve gone through the time change, how did everyone do? We talked about it a bit last week, but yes, it is Daylight Saving Time, not Savings. Benjamin Franklin came up with that idea. In 1784, he wrote a letter to The Journal of Paris, suggesting that waking up earlier in the spring and summer months would save on candle usage. Now as we head deeper into fall and closer to winter, that doesn’t seem to matter as much.
One more thing to mention today. This Wednesday marks another special day on the calendar. It’s not as well known as Christmas or Thanksgiving, but some might say just as important. Nov. 13 is World Kindness Day, observed across the world as a day to just be kind to everyone you meet. And with that in mind, let’s turn to honor some people who have birthdays coming up.
Happy Birthday wishes go out to Frankie Branham of Cumberland, who celebrates on Nov. 13; Barbara Kitzer of Fork Union on Nov. 15; Brooks Ingle, Stephanie Marion and Leighton Ingle of Cumberland, on Nov. 22; Barbara Heifner of Dillwyn, on Nov. 25 and Jacksyn Waycaster of Powhatan, on Nov. 28.
Here’s one more thing to remember this week. Coming up on Monday, it’s a time to pay tribute to veterans. As part of that, Buckingham Baptist Church will hold a free pancake supper for veterans and their families. The church, located at 24234 North James Madison Highway in the Gold Hill Area, will put together a meal including pancakes, sausage and a drink. All veterans and their families are invited to attend. That’ll start at 6 p.m. Monday and if you want more information, just call Jo Lang at 434-547-5396.
