It starts on Monday, Nov. 11. Fuqua School will host the Town of Farmville’s annual Veterans Day celebration, starting at 11 a.m. to pay tribute to the end of World War I. Fighting stopped in the war at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1918. It was the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Nov. 11 originally became known as Armistice Day, as a way of paying tribute to soldiers who died in the “War to End All Wars”. But after World War II, Congress decided a day was needed to honor veterans from all of America’s conflicts, regardless of when and where they happened.

This year’s event will be held at Crute Stage in downtown Farmville, with a ceremony featuring Silas Blanton as keynote speaker. Blanton serves as Commander of American Legion Post #32 and will talk about the significance of Veterans Day and the dedication of military service members. Additionally, the Fuqua School Band will provide musical selections to honor those who have served, enhancing the ceremony’s reverent and celebratory atmosphere.

“We are proud to host this event in recognition of the sacrifices made by our veterans,” said Tyler Gage. He serves as Director of Bands at Fuqua School. “It is a privilege to unite as a community to remember and honor their contributions.”
