Keep your cars locked when you’re not inside. The Farmville Police Department continues to ask residents to take precautions after another round of break-ins and thefts in the town. Over the last week, there were six reports of burglary alarms being triggered and four reports of theft, with the majority of those cases happening on South Main Street.
Beyond the South Main cases, there were also theft reports on School Street and Meriwood Farm Road. Two weeks before, there had been another 22 similar cases in town. As a result, Farmville Police officials are asking residents to be sure and lock your vehicles, even if they’re parked at home. In many of the cases mentioned above, citizens reported having their vehicles rummaged through, mostly with cash missing from their vehicles. These thefts appear to be occurring from vehicles that are unlocked.
“We ask everyone to follow these four principles of vehicle safety: ‘Lock It, Take It, Hide It, Keep It.’ Lock your vehicle at all times if it is not within your sight,” said Farmville Police Chief Andy Ellington in a statement. “Take your keys, cash, wallet, purse, and other belongings with you. Hide valuables in the vehicle so they cannot be seen from the windows. Keep your keys with you at all times. Do not leave your vehicle unattended while running: not while going into a store, nor even in your own driveway. Don’t make it easy for thieves. Let’s follow these rules to keep our community safe!”
Farmville Police officials ask if anyone has any information related to the thefts from these vehicles to please contact the Farmville Police Department.
