More than 1,000 Farmville residents were in the dark for most of Saturday night and into Sunday morning, thanks to a traffic accident. Farmville police and emergency crews responded to a crash that happened down on Second Street, just west of Virginia Street. The situation happened as a driver lost control and ran into a light pole, knocking out power for 1,211 residents. It’s still unclear what triggered the accident. We also currently do not have an updated status on the driver’s medical condition.

The pole itself needed to be replaced, as it was bent and damaged. The same goes for the power line infrastructure. Soon after the incident, workers from Dominion Energy arrived on the scene. It took them until 3 a.m. Sunday to get everything repaired and for power to be fully restored.
