Martha Sue “Marsue” Allison ShapiroMartha Sue “Marsue” Allison Shapiro, 85 of Apple Blossom Road, Farmville, died at home Oct. 3, with her son, Paul Arthur Shapiro by her side. In addition to Paul, she is survived by her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Joan Hollowell and Betty Lou Armstrong and numerous nieces and nephews.

As the older twin born on May 9,1939 to the late Clarice and James L. Allison Sr., her spirit of leadership, teaching and serving was woven throughout her life. She retired from GE and in 1984 she and her husband Walter moved to the Farmville area, where they found enjoyment in their farming life but also in the investment in their community. Martha became a CNA and served through Hospice for many years, affecting and being affected as her hands did the work in her heart. Martha did nothing halfway. Throughout the years she has enjoyed basket weaving, sewing, tatting, knitting, and quilting. She was generous with sharing things she had made but also quick to share in the joy of the process by teaching others.

In addition to her parents Martha was predeceased by her husband, Walter Neil Shapiro Sr.; daughter, Deborah Sue; sons, Walter Neil Jr, Donald Eugene and Timothy Dean, and three brothers, Lewis Jr., Boyd and Lloyd. Familiar with the ache of loss she was not defeated by it, “Now don’t you go crying on me”.
