Katy Jean Leslie (Wright) died unexpectedly, yet peacefully, in St. Mary’s hospital on Oct. 23, in Richmond, at the age of 60.
Katy is survived by her sons, Patrick Leslie, Christopher Leslie (Kelly); daughter, Shannon Leslie; grandson, Oliver Leslie; brother, George Gray (April); many nieces and nephews and Aunt Kathleen Grant (Raymond). She is also survived by her ex-husband and dear friend William Leslie and Elizabeth Leslie.
She is preceded in death by parents, George Wright and Diane Cowherd; and by her nana, Mary Davidson.
Katy was born on Sept. 8, 1964, in Richmond, to George Wright and Diane Cowherd. She graduated from Southside Virginia Community College with degrees in Office Administration and Administration of Justice.
Katy aspired to do everything. She was a published author with a photographer’s eye, a gifted seamstress and enjoyed taking meticulous notes about her garden. She befriended everything that held breath though she was partial to four-legged companions. She loved to travel and dreamed most often of seeing the world. A competent cook, her family will miss her fudge, cookies, and pasta dishes. Her children cherished her and were happy to call her “Mom”. Of her many dreams fulfilled, becoming “Nana” to her grandson Oliver was closest to her heart.
Katy suffered an aortic rupture and was admitted to Bon Secours Regional Medical Center Oct. 21. After a brave two days, she died around 9 p.m., Oct. 23, close to her children.
The family is having a memorial service Saturday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m., on the Leslie family land. A cookout/potluck celebration will be enjoyed immediately after as Katy had desired.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Katy’s honor to The Humane Society of the United States.
