OCTOBER 25

SPAGHETTI FUNDRAISER – Payne Memorial Church will hold a spaghetti fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 25. The meal includes spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert. People can eat in the fellowship hall or take it to go. The cost is whatever donation you will give, with money going to the church’s building fund. Delivery is also available locally. The church is located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland and the meal starts at 11 a.m. until sold out.

CLOTHES GIVEAWAY – Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road in Farmville, will hold a clothing giveaway on Friday, Oct. 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be 400 coats and 400 pairs of shoes, along with clothes for all ages. 

CHAMPAGNE & CHOCOLATE GALA – The Friends of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library will hold a Champagne and Chocolate Gala on Friday, Oct. 25 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Proceeds will go to directly fund library programs. There will be refreshments, a special storytime about why the library is named a “community library”, recognition of the top donor and music from the jazz/blues trio Jackson, Pendergrass and Townsend. Tickets can be brought at the library for $25. 

HAUNTED TRAIL –  Sandy River Distillery, located at 147 Monroe Church Road in Rice, will celebrate the trick or treat season with a haunted trail on Friday, Oct. 25. The trail runs every 10 minutes, beginning at 6 p.m., with the first hour geared toward little ones. The scare factor jumps up at 7 p.m. Buying a ticket for the trail also includes access to the bounce house and face painting. There will also be a pumpkin patch, with paint and carving kits to decorate as you want. Tickets are $10 online at sandyriveroutdooradventures.com or $15 at the door. OCTOBER 26 

APPOMATTOX RIVER CLEANUP – The Friends of the Appomattox River will hold their fall waterways cleanup this Saturday, Oct. 26. Those interested can meet at Wilck’s Lake parking lot at 9 a.m. for tools and assignments. All levels of skill are acceptable and this is open to everyone.

CELEBRATE LIFE – In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Apostolic Faith Church of All Nations will have a Celebrate Life Service on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. Survivors of all types of cancer will be honored, with guest speakers Ministers Kaye Vanlandingham and Minor Jones, both cancer survivors. 

NC DISASTER RELIEF FUNDRAISER – Fitzgerald Memorial Church, located at 14 Fitzgerald Road in Cumberland, will hold a Brunswick Stew fundraiser to raise money for North Carolina Disaster Relief. That’ll take place on Saturday, Oct. 26, with a noon pickup. Stew will be $10 a quart. You can pre-order by calling 804-492-5151 or 804-492-4340 and leaving your voice message with name and phone number.

CHILI FUNDRAISER – Heart of Virginia Free Clinic will hold a chili fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 26, running from noon to 3 p.m. Chili can be bought by the cup or quart. That’ll take place at 401 E. Third Street in Farmville. Quarts are $10 and cups with cornbread and fixings is $5. 

RAPTOR ROUNDUP – The Friends of Twin Lakes State Park will hold their annual Raptor Roundup on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. That’ll be at the Cedar Crest Conference Center, located at 22 Cedar Crest Road in Green Bay. The event highlights the world of raptors, with local experts coming to talk about the birds. Local raptors will also be on display. There will be kites to decorate and homemade chili to sample. 

CHURCH STEW & SALE – St. James Episcopal Church will hold a stew and bake sale on Saturday, Oct. 26 in Cartersville. The stew is $10 per quart. You can call 804-304-6550 to reserve your stew. It will be ready by noon. 

FALL FESTIVAL – Spring Creek Baptist Church, located at 918 Darlington Heights Road, will hold its annual fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be hay rides, a bounce house, games with prizes and a cake walk. The church will have hot dogs, chips and drinks, cotton candy and donut holes, with a trunk or treat at 3:30 p.m. A stew fundraiser will also be held, with money going to the youth group.

MENTAL HEALTH RECOVERY – Farmville Seventh Day Adventist Church will hold a Mental Health Recovery Program on Saturday, Oct. 26, designed to help people learn how to break away from unhealthy habits and addictions. The event begins at 1 p.m.  

CHICKEN DINNER – Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host a grilled chicken dinner on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Prospect Firehouse. That’s located at 45 Campbell Hill Road in the Village of Prospect. The meal will include grilled chicken, hashbrown casserole, green beans, roll, dessert, tea and lemonade, all for a donation at the door.

GOVERNOR’S VISIT – Governor Glen Youngkin will be in Prince Edward on Saturday, Oct. 26, along with Congressman Jim Jordan and State Senator John McGuire for a Get Out The Vote Rally at The Barn at Poor House, located at 3286 Poor House Road in Rice. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the event starts at 7 p.m. Residents are encouraged to wear their “I voted” stickers. 

FALL FESTIVAL – New Store Baptist Church will hold a fall fest on Saturday, October 26, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be face painting, trunk-or-treat, games, activities and crafts. The church is located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville. 

CHURCH WORKSHOP – The Prince Edward Deacons Union and the South-Central Deaconess Union will host a workshop conducted by Rev. Osa Dowdy of the Baptist Convention on Saturday, Oct. 26. The focus of the meeting will be on holy communion, with the event being held at 3 p.m. at the fellowship hall of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The church is located at 1913 Tuggle Road in Farmville.

SPOOKY HOLLOW – Historic Buckingham will hold their Spooky Hollow Drive Thru fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. This will take place in the Historic Village at Lee Wayside at 84 Lee Wayside Road in Buckingham, two miles west of Sprouse’s Corner, just off of Route 60. Admission is only $10 per car. 

OCTOBER 27 

CHURCH ANNIVERSARY – Oak Grove Baptist Church, located at 2083 S. James Madison Highway, will celebrate their church anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 27 during the 11 a.m. service. Pastor Kevin Bolden Sr. will deliver the message, with lunch served following morning worship. At a second service, set for 2:30 p.m., Rev. Stevie Trent with the choir from Second Union Baptist Church in Goochland will be the guests. 

OCTOBER 28 

DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Extension office. 

OCTOBER 29 

DEMOCRAT MEETING – The Buckingham County Democratic Committee will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. That’ll take place at 54 Administration Lane in the Agriculture Building. 

OCTOBER 31

FARMVILLE HALLOWEEN PARADE – The Farmville Halloween Parade begins at 4 p.m. in the downtown area. From 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., families can go from business to business and collect candy, while also taking part in this year’s costume contest. 

TRUNK OR TREAT – Payne Memorial Church, located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland, will hold a trunk or treat event on Thursday, Oct. 31. There will be free hotdogs, chips and drinks for everyone, with candy and games for the kids. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

TRUNK OR TREAT – Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold a trunk or treat event with games, activities and treats from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. 

TRUNK OR TREAT – Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold a Trunk or Treat event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. 

NOVEMBER 1 – NOVEMBER 2

CHRISTMAS MARKET – Farmville United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas Market on Friday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The church is located at 212 High Street in Farmville, with proceeds going to support local missions.

HOLIDAY BAZAAR – St. Theresa’s Catholic Church will hold a Holiday Bazaar on Friday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be held at the Parish Center, located at 700 Buffalo Street in Farmville. 

NOVEMBER 1

ART RECEPTION – Central Virginia Arts will hold a reception on Friday, Nov. 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. That’ll take place at the Riverside Cafe, located at 522 N. Main Street in Farmville. 

FREE CONCERT – The Richmond Symphony Orchestra will return to Longwood University on Friday, Nov. 1 for a free concert. The event will be held at Jarman Auditorium on campus, with doors opening at 7 p.m. The concert itself will begin at 7:30 p.m. and seats are available on a first come, first served basis. 

NOVEMBER 2

FALL FESTIVAL – Heritage Baptist Church, located at 700 Milnwood Road, will hold a fall festival on Saturday, Nov. 2 from noon to 4 p.m. There will be a straw bale maze, a bounce house, pumpkin painting and hay rides. 

YOUTH EXPLOSION – Midway Baptist Church’s Youth and Young Adult Ministry will hold a Youth Explosion on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. 

NOVEMBER 3

CHURCH ANNIVERSARY – New Store Baptist Church will celebrate its 154th church anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 3, during the 11 a.m. service. The theme will be “Rooted in Love, Growing in Faith”, with a special message from Pastor Irma Exantus. Lunch will be provided after the service in the lower level. The church is located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville. 

NOVEMBER 4 

CURDSVILLE POTLUCK – The Curdsville Community Center will meet on Monday, Nov. 4, beginning at 6 p.m., for a Thanksgiving potluck dinner. Turkey will be provided, with attendees asked to bring their favorite sidedish. The community center is located at 122 School Road. 

NOVEMBER 5 

CHURCH FUNDRAISER – Thomas Chapel, located at 1313 Cartersville Road in Cartersville, will hold a fundraiser for local projects on Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bob Robinson will cook chicken BBQ and there will be a yard sale. Chicken halves are $8 and pre-orders can be placed by calling 804-837-1566. 

NOVEMBER 7

BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER – Piedmont Area Veterans Council will hold a breakfast fundraiser on Thursday, Nov.7 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Bojangles, located at 1501 S. Main Street in Farmville. A percentage of each sale will be donated to the PAVC. 

NOVEMBER 9

VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION – Muddy Paws Winery, located at 2640 Rock Island Road, will hold a Veterans Day celebration on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be Veteran-Owned Businesses on hand, as well as informational booths providing resources and information for veterans such as benefits and support services. Green Dogs Unleashed will be on hand, promoting the “vets need a sidekick” pet adoption program. There will also be live music and food trucks on hand. 

VETERANS DAY EXTRAVAGANZA – Farmville will host A Salute to Veterans on Saturday, Nov. 9. The event will be held at Three Roads Brewery, located at 312 W. Third Street, starting at 1 p.m. The Farmville Brass Band will perform, along with Sweet Adelines, with an Honor Guard and military displays. 

NOVEMBER 9 

FALL BAZAAR – The Curdsville Community Center will host a fall bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be homemade crafts from local vendors, food and secondhand treasures in the White Elephant Room. The center is located at 122 School Road. 

NOVEMBER 10 

FALL FESTIVAL – Cedar Baptist Church, located at 3932 Bell Road in Dillwyn, will hold a fall festival following church services on Sunday, Nov. 10. 

NOVEMBER 16 

GRIEFSHARE – There will be a ‘Surviving the Holidays’ seminar for people who are grieving a loved one’s death at the Farmville United Methodist Church. The event will run on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon. You can register by Nov. 7 at 434-392-4686. 

NOVEMBER 24 

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY – New Store Baptist Church will celebrate the second pastoral anniversary of Pastor Irma Exantus on Sunday, Nov. 24 during the 11 a.m. service. The theme will be “Leading with Love, Serving with Grace”, with a special message from Pastor Dr. Sylvain Exantus. There will be lunch served afterward in the lower level. The church is located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville.
