On Oct. 19, our loving wife, mother and grandmother, Florence Marie Pearson Keller, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus while surrounded by her beloved family.
She was born to the late James Albert Pearson and Alice Austin Pearson in Toledo, Ohio on Jan. 19, 1944. She is also preceded in death by her five sisters.
During her childhood, she traveled to many different states with her family as her father was a construction welder. Eventually, she settled in Virginia, where she met the love of her life, her husband of almost 60 years, Washington James Keller, also known as Scootie.
Together, they had two daughters, Charlotte Morris (Steve) of Cumberland and Sherry Hershberger (Stewart) of Dillwyn. She leaves behind two grandchildren, Stephanie Marion (Keith) of Cumberland and Daniel Morris (Ciera) of Cumberland; four great grandchildren, Kyler Marion, Kailey Marion, Kip Marion and Sadie Morris. She also leaves behind a sister, Joanne Martin and several nieces and nephews.
Florence was a stay at home mom, who raised chickens for Holly Farms, as well as worked in the family owned and operated store, Keller Store. She then worked in Food Service at Beaumont Correctional Center and retired with 30 years of employment. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and grandchildren to the mountains, spur of the moment trips to buy farm animals, and family dinners every chance she had.
After retirement she enjoyed volunteering at Centra Southside Community Hospital and helping the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Though she is no longer with us, she is out of pain and is reborn, her feisty, loving and gentle spirit will live on thru her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all her caretakers through the last few months of her life here on earth.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct.23, at 12 p.m. at Jones Chapel Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the Hatcher Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cumberland Vol. Fire Department Auxiliary.
Dunkum Funeral Home is serving the family.
