Last week was a time of training for officers of the Cumberland High FFA. They traveled to Dinwiddie High for the annual Southeast area Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT). That group included Cumberland FFA President B. Robison, Vice President R. Elder, Reporter M. Adkins and Chaplain S. Price, all of whom attended the leadership conference and worked with Virginia State Officers, as well as members from the other schools in the Southeast region. 

The Cumberland High FFA is a student-led organization that focuses on premier leadership and events like this are a part of what helps mold these young agriculturists into leaders of tomorrow. During this COLT conference, attendees learned all about active and empathetic listening, FFA history, and how there are so many ways to improve. This leadership conference is one of several CHS FFA chapter officers will attend during the 24-25 school year, including FFA day at the capitol.  

“Not everyone particularly cares about attending these types of events, but I enjoy them,” Robison said. “I enjoy spending time learning from other chapters and meeting other chapter officers.” 

Robison said that these conferences allow her “to gauge where we are as a club and identify any areas of improvement and every year It seems like we bring back at least one idea to implement in our chapter”.  Robison said she is looking forward to the rest of this school year as President and looks forward to seeing what she can do to not only improve her Cumberland High FFA chapter but how can FFA better the community, school, and the students’ lives that we have an opportunity to impact.
