Buckingham County High crowns a new King and Queen

Buckingham County High has a new Homecoming King and Queen. During a ceremony at halftime of the Friday, Oct. 11 football game, Jayden Maxey was crowned King and Madelyn Motley was crowned Queen. 

The 17-year-old Jayden is the son of Clarissa Haskins-Maxey and Jamell Maxey. He plays on the varsity football team, track team and is part of the Future Christian Athletes of America club. Jayden is also a Dual Enrollment Honor Student, a member of BETA, a National Honor Student and is a member of 100 Black Men of Central Virginia. 

Jayden is the President of the Buckingham NAACP Youth Council and an Honoree of the 2023 Titan Team.  He is also a member of the Spreading Oak Baptist Church of Arvonia. The school district named him as the October Senior of the Month and after graduation, Jayden plans to attend a four-year HBCU (Historic Black Colleges & Universities) and become an entrepreneur.

His parents escorted him during the Oct. 11 ceremony. 

Madelyn Motley, meanwhile, is the 17-year-old daughter of Hope and Jeff Motley of Dillwyn. She’s played volleyball for the last seven years, currently as part of the varsity team at Buckingham County High. She also played tennis for three years. Madelyn is currently the senior class president and is also on the SCA Executive Board, where she is the senior class chair.  She is a member of FBLA, FFA, National Honor Society, and BETA.  When she graduates, Madelyn plans to attend a 4 year university and then attend graduate school to become a nurse anesthetist. Her parents and her brother, Tucker, escorted her during the ceremony.
