Make that 2-0 on the season. The Prince Edward Middle School Eagles secured their second win Wednesday night with a 22-18 victory over Halifax Middle School.

“This game showed me a team that wants to win by any means,” said Prince Edward Head Coach Louis Gould III. “Both teams were going blow for blow, but one team had to win. We made big plays down the stretch that counted.”

Last month, Gould said his team was built on defense and they showed that again this week, only giving up six of Halifax’s 18 points.

“Our defense held their own and kept us on our winning streak,” Gould said.

In two games so far this season, the Eagles defense has just given up six points, while forcing four fumbles and picking up one defensive touchdown,

On the offensive side for Prince Edward Middle, quarterback Avan Carrington lit up the scoreboard, throwing three touchdowns. One of those went to Jaylin Boyd and two others went to Malaa’Chi Alford. That makes two straight games for Boyd catching a touchdown pass from Carrington.

Prince Edward had won their first game of the season 34-0 against Colonial Heights. The Eagles now have a week off before going on the road to take on Mecklenburg Middle School Wednesday, Sept. 18. Then the team returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 25 to face Appomattox. Beyond that, here’s a look at the team’s full regular season schedule.
