FARMVILLE STARTS HYDRANT FLUSHING
If your water has a slightly discolored look, don’t worry. That’s a temporary effect due to work being done by the Town of Farmville. Town staff started flushing fire hydrants this past week, a standard practice to help remove sediment that collects in the distribution system. That doesn’t mean anything is wrong with the water and there’s nothing to be concerned about. If your water has that discolored look, it should come back to normal within a couple days at most. If you have concerns, however, you can call the Farmville Water Treatment Plant at 434-392-8744.
CUMBERLAND SCHOOLS HOLD 9/11 CEREMONY
A special 9/11 remembrance ceremony will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the Cumberland County High track, to honor the lives lost and the bravery shown on Sept. 11, 2001. The event, held in partnership between the school district and the county, begins at 9 a.m. The goal, school officials say, is to give the community a chance to come together in reflection and remembrance. The entire community is invited to take part.
FARMVILLE RESIDENT FINISHES IN TOP 5
Farmville resident and Longwood University senior Saad Khan was one of three members of the school’s cross country team to finish in the Top Five Saturday during the Lancer Home Open. Overall, the Lancer men had all five of their scoring runners finish in the Top Seven, helping them win the event. Benjamin Goulet led the Lancers with a time of 26:33.4, finishing third in the field. Khan followed right behind, finishing fourth with a time of 26:56:2 that tied his previous personal best. Jordyn Dillavou finished fifth with a time of 27:13:4. Following the race, the men’s and women’s team held a walk for Morgan’s Message.
BLUE CREW RETURNS FOR NEW SEASON
And speaking of Longwood, registration is now open for year three of the Blue Crew, the official kids club of Longwood athletics.
Blue Crew, which is sponsored by Papa John’s, is open to all children 12 years old and younger, and it features a variety of special benefits that are exclusively available to Blue Crew members.
“Lancer Nation isn’t just made up of adults,” said Longwood Director of Athletics Marketing & Fan Experience Ashley Helms. “Blue Crew provides a way for us to make sure that the youngest members of Lancer Nation know how important they are. Plus, it provides a great chance for families looking for common interests and activities to be together, and it continues to strengthen the bond of Longwood and the Farmville community.”
The cost is $25 per child, which includes five free admission vouchers to a home basketball game, VIP credential card and lanyard, 2024-25 Blue Crew t-shirt, a birthday card from Elwood, and exclusive access to special athletic events.
