Last year, the Lancers took the Farmville community on a wild ride, winning the Big South Tournament and competing in the NCAA Tournament. Now, as we get closer to tipoff for the followup season, here’s a look at the Longwood nonconference schedule and when teams will show up in town.

The Lancers, the reigning Big South Champions for the second time in three seasons, will begin their run to defend their title and advance to March Madness in November. The non-conference schedule features eight home games in the Joan Perry Brock Center and seven outside of Farmville, including a trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam on November 22-25.

So what does the Longwood nonconference schedule look like? In the 15 games, the Lancers will face off against foes from more than seven conferences, with teams from the ACC, American Athletic Conference, CAA, Horizon League and more.

The month of November is busy, with a host of home games that begins on opening night when the Lancers host Randolph College on November 4.

Longwood then welcomes Morgan State to the Joan Perry Brock Center on November 9 for a major highlight during Homecoming weekend at the University.

The Lancers wrap up the four-game homestand with Milwaukee (November 13) and UT-Martin (November 16) before hitting the road.

A four-game stretch away from home follows, with a trip to Binghamton on November 19 kicking things off.

Lancers head off to Paradise

The team then heads to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam in the 25th edition of the classic tournament. Longwood will open the tournament on ESPN against fellow March Madness foe UAB on November 22, with two more games to follow over the next few days. Other teams in the field include Liberty, Kansas State, Illinois State, McNeese State, Louisiana, and George Washington.

In December, Longwood returns home to host four straight games. To open the month, the Lancers play Regent (December 1) before hosting both the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (December 5) and Mary Baldwin (December 8).

The homestand concludes with a matchup against North Carolina Central on December 14, the first of two meetings between the two teams for a second straight year.

The Longwood nonconference schedule then wraps up with three straight road games, with a trip to former Big South foe Campbell to begin the gauntlet on December 18 and a return trip to North Carolina Central (December 20). One final non-conference tilt awaits afterwards with a trip to SMU on December 28.

Looking beyond Longwood nonconference schedule

We’ll have to wait just a bit longer for the Big South conference schedule, with school officials saying that’s coming at a later date.

As we mentioned, this past year marked Longwood’s third straight winning season under Head Coach Griff Aldrich. To put that in perspective, the last time that happened was in the Ron Carr era from 1992 to 1995, when Longwood was in NCAA Division II, so it’s been a minute. Longwood’s NCAA Tournament bid this past season, which they secured after running the table in the Big South Tournament, was their second in three years. To put that in perspective, Longwood is one of just 20 mid-major schools to do that within the last five years.
