SEPTEMBER 15 

HOMECOMING – Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Dillwyn will hold homecoming on Sunday, Sept. 15, beginning at 11 a.m. Rev. George Lewis from Unity Community Church will deliver the message. Lunch will be served after worship. There will be a Memorial Tribute Rally during morning worship, with donations made in memory of loved ones.

MEMORIAL PROGRAM – Bethel Grove Baptist Church, located at 10844 Green Bay Road in Rice, will hold a memorial program on Sunday, Sept. 15. The congregation will honor those who have passed on by lighting a candle in remembrance. The service starts at 3 p.m. 

SEPTEMBER 17 

BOOK TALK – Author Mayling Simpson will discuss her book Lives Guided by Honor – How VMI Shaped the Class of 1968 at the Greenwood Library on the Longwood University campus. That’ll take place on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Simpson is herself a 1968 graduate of Longwood. 

HISTORICAL MEETING – The Farmville-Prince Edward Historical Society will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17, starting at 7 p.m. The group will meet at the Farmville Train Station, with a presentation on the construction of the steel viaduct at High Bridge back in 1913. This will be the second of a three-part discussion on the construction of the modern day High Bridge. You can also view more than 100 old photos of the construction.

SEPTEMBER 18-20 

REVIVAL – Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Dillwyn will hold revival services from Wednesday, Sept. 18 to Friday, Sept. 20. Rev. Larry Smith from Rocky Mount Baptist Church will deliver the message on Sept. 18, with music from All 4 Christ. Then on Sept. 19, it’ll be Rev. Kevin Bolden Sr., pastor of Oak Grove in Life Ministries preaching, with More than Blessed providing music. On Sept. 20, Rev. Kippy Lundy from Third Liberty Baptist Church will preach. All services will start at 7 p.m.

SEPTEMBER 19 

FALL MEMBERSHIP MEETING – Historic Buckingham will hold its annual fall membership meeting and stew on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 5:30 p.m. That’ll take place at the Historic Buckingham Village at Lee Wayside. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.

TOWN HALL MEETING – Prince Edward Supervisor Odessa Pride will hold a town hall meeting for Hampden District residents on Thursday, Sept. 19. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Crawley Forum on the campus of Hampden-Sydney College. County officials, the Prince Edward sheriff, officials from VDOT and STEPS will all be on hand. 

SEPTEMBER 20 

MOAA MEETING – The Military Officers Association of America will hold a monthly lunch meeting on Friday, Sept. 20. That’ll take place at 12:30 p.m. on 2650 W. Third Street in Farmville. Attendees are asked to bring their own lunch and drink. Morgan Hayes, branch manager of the Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library, will provide updates on the services offered to veterans. 

SEPTEMBER 21

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD – Operation Christmas Child will hold an event at Burkeville Baptist Church, located at 222 Agnew Street. That’ll start on Saturday, Sept. 21, running from 10 a.m. to noon. 

FALL FESTIVAL – Mt. Zion Baptist Church’s Fall Festival and KOZ Hunting & Fishing Expo will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Events will include a bounce house, face painting, pony rides, a petting zoo, an archery range, a .22 rifle range, corn hole, games and cake walks. The event is free. 

INDIAN RELIC SHOW – Historic Buckingham will hold an Indian Relic Show on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Historic Village at Lee Wayside. That’ll run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dozens of collectors from Virginia and North Carolina will exhibit their collections and sell, trade, and answer questions. There will be displays, demonstrations, live music, and at 1 p.m., there will be an arrowhead hunt for the kids. There is no admission charge. Lunch will be available. The Historic Village is located at 84 Lee Wayside Rd, Buckingham, two miles west of Sprouse’s Corner off of Rt. 60. For more information call 434-969-4032.

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY – Green Creek New Site Baptist Church will celebrate the first pastoral anniversary of Rev. Alvin E. Witcher Jr. That’ll happen on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. Rev. Irma T. Watson from Midway Baptist Church will deliver the message. 

MEMORIAL PROGRAM – Old Green Creek Baptist Church, located at 282 Cooks Road in Farmville, will hold a memorial program on Saturday, Sept. 21, beginning at 2 p.m. Special guests, including Gravel Hill Baptist Church, will provide the music, with dinner served afterward.

CLASSIC CRUISE-IN –The Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club will hold its monthly cruise-in on Sept. 21 at the parking lot by Tractor Supply in Farmville. Residents can bring classic or antique cars or simply come and check them out. The club meets every month at Merk’s on the second Monday at 6 p.m.

SEPTEMBER 22

PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY – The St. Douglas Baptist Church family will celebrate the first anniversary of Rev. Loretta D. Bailey on Sunday, Sept. 22. The event will be held at 3 p.m. at St. Douglas Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis King, Pastor of Rocky Mount Baptist Church, will deliver the message. 

SEPTEMBER 23 

DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Prince Edward Democratic Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 23. That’ll start at 6 p.m. in the Extension Office, located at 100 Dominion Drive. 

SEPTEMBER 24 

DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Buckingham County Democratic Committee will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24. That’ll begin at 6 p.m. at 54 Administration Lane, in the Agriculture Building. 

SEPTEMBER 26 

BIBLE STUDY – New Store Baptist Church, located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville, will host a six-week Fall Bible Study titled Learning from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. The Bible class will meet each Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., starting on Sept. 26 and ending on Oct. 31. 

SEPTEMBER 28

SEMINAR — An Emergency Preparedness Seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Farmville Church of Christ on Saturday, Sept. 28. The church is located at 1401 Milnwood Road in Farmville. The seminar is free admission and will include door prizes. Register at farmvillechurchofchrist.org if you plan to attend.

FUN DAY – Calvary Baptist Church, located at 3010 Sandy River Road in Burkeville, will host a Fun Day on Saturday, Sept. 28 from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature a picnic, outdoor games and fun activities. 

SEPTEMBER 29 

DEACONS AND TRUSTEES – The Cumberland Deacons and Trustees Conference will hold its annual program at Sharon Baptist Church on Sunday, Sept. 29, beginning at 3 p.m. Deacons, trustees and congregations of member churches are invited to attend. 

OCTOBER 5

FALL FARM FEST – Historic Buckingham will hold its annual Fall Farm Fest on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Historic Village. There will be food, kids’ activities, animals, tractors, vendors, exhibits and music from the Farm Use Band. The Historic Village is located about two miles west of Sprouse’s Corner, off of Route 60 at 84 Lee Wayside Road. 

FALL FESTIVAL – Buckingham Baptist Church, located at 24234 North James Madison HIghway in the Gold Hill area of New Canton, will hold a fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 5. That’ll run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and there will be bounce houses, games and food, along with chili and barbeque by the bowl or quart.

WOMEN’S & MEN’S DAY – High Bridge Baptist Church, located at 2526 Lockett Road in Rice, will hold their annual Women’s and Men’s Day program on Sunday, Oct. 6. Rev. Stella Forest Tucker from Chesterfield will deliver the message during the 11 a.m. Women’s Day service. People are asked to wear some combination of pink and black. Dinner will be served following worship. Then at 2 p.m., the Men’s Day service will be held, with Rev. Jeffrey Perkinson from Charlottesville. 

OCTOBER 12

FALL FESTIVAL – Twin Lakes State Park will hold a fall festival and craft marketplace on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The rain date is set for Sunday, Oct. 13. The family-friendly activities include hay rides, pumpkin painting, a scarecrow competition and a delicious array of seasonal treats. Pumpkins will also be available for purchase. The scarecrow event will be judged at 1 p.m. and guests are welcome to bring their own supplies. The event is free but the $7 parking fee remains. The parking fee will be waived for anyone who brings at least two nonperishable food items, to be donated to F.A.C.E.S. 

OCTOBER 19

STEW FUNDRAISER – The Mercy Seat Baptist Church Missionary Ministry will hold a stew and cornbread fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 19. The event will be held at the Turn Out Grounds across from Mercy Seat Baptist, starting at noon. Stew will be sold by the quart for $12. 

OCTOBER 26 

FALL FESTIVAL – New Store Baptist Church will hold a fall fest on Saturday, October 26, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be face painting, trunk-or-treat, games, activities and crafts. The church is located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville.
