A former Dillwyn resident recently started his teaching career in Virginia. Tanner Wise is teaching agriculture this year at Orange County High School, where he also serves as an Future Farmers of America (FFA) Advisor. Wise, who currently lives in Madison, graduated from Virginia Tech back on May 10 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal and Poultry Sciences.
As a 2022 graduate of Buckingham County High and Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC), Wise worked in their dual enrollment programs. He finished with both a high school diploma and an associates degree in General Studies – Agriculture Specialization in May 2022. He took additional classes through SVCC, in addition to what was required for his Associates degree, to earn his degree in Agriculture Specialization.
That work prepared him for Virginia Tech, Wise said, as he credits his success to the many professors, teachers, advisors, administrators, mentors, friends and family who encouraged him along the way. He also gives God the glory.
Wise is the son of David Wise and Sherri Hackney Wise of Madison, also formerly of Dillwyn.
