Donald Hunter will run for a sixth term, representing Ward D on the Farmville Town Council. The current council member made the announcement earlier this week, thanking residents for putting their trust in him.

“I have had the absolute honor of serving on the Town Council for the past 20 years, representing the citizens and taxpayers of Ward D,” Hunter said. “My tenure has been marked by relentless service and dedication to the community, and I have served on various sub-committees such as Recreation, Finance, and Public Safety.”

He also highlighted the work the town council has done and is still doing to streamline operations, identify inefficiencies in the town and implement new processes.

“The results have been nothing short of phenomenal,” Hunter said. “The recreation department has improved by increasing programs and adding additional staff to increase the efficiency of the program. The overall debt has also decreased tremendously in the last decade, from when Farmville’s debt was at $22 million.”

He also highlighted the fact Farmville offers Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits to its town employees, adding that helps to make the town competitive with other agencies, when it comes to hiring.

“Although the town has faced challenging times over the past few years, such as the pandemic, the controversy surrounding confederate statues, and the call for defunding of the police, Farmville has always emerged stronger and more resilient,” Hunter said. “As a member of the Town Council, I have always been committed to making solid decisions in the best interest of our town. The members of the town council work collaboratively to address concerns for all people, and my voice has contributed to this drive towards progress.”

Now, Donald Hunter said, he’s asking residents to continue to put their faith in him.

“I urge the citizens and taxpayers of Farmville to continue to put their faith in me as I seek re-election,” Hunter said. “Together, we will take Farmville to greater heights and make it the best place to live, work, and play.”
